Lord will strike that poor boy down,
Turned from hunted into hunter,
Went to hunt somebody down…

A old friend called me last week and said he had an old Marantz receiver he found at his dad's place--did I want it?
Sure, why not...
I pulled it apart, cleaned all the pots, and it seems everything works!
It is a Marantz 4415--15 watts per channel x 4...it is one of those receivers from the '70's when audio manufacturers were pushing 4 channel audio. It has left and right rear channels that are basically the front stereo and a spatial effect knob. I am using it in 2 channel stereo.
The speakers you see are Zu Audio and will jam with just 10 watts of power as they are 99db efficient.
I am using a Pro-Ject Debut 3 Carbon table and a Lehmann Black Cube phono stage going into the Aux input.
The FM stereo sounds pretty darn good as well.

I haven't listened to Marty Robbins in ages...you just gave me reason to go pull an old Marty LP off the shelf.

Since I am listening in the dark tonight, I'll just post a pic of the album cover...
"South City Midnight Lady" is probably my favorite by them.

I found a decent copy of Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs at an antique store in Shreveport. Love that album.

Great score dude! Is the bulb out on the channel indicator thing next to the signal strength meter? Or does that only come on if you have all four channels going?
I <3 70's Marantz. They are by no means top of the line, but are a great value for the cost, were built well, and some of the most beautiful pieces of audio equipment ever made!

I'm looking for some advice. Are any of you MB experts familiar with the Bellari VP130 tube preamp?
I am basically tube ignorant. All I know is that the people who are into it swear by it and that it can get expensive. This seems like a nice, inexpensive, intro-level piece of equipment. Based on the reviews, I will need to upgrade the stock tube and power supply. My 2 current setups(I plan to try it out on each to see where there is more improvement, assuming there is any):
Denon DP-300F with Ortofon Red - Onkyo A-9050 - 2 Klipsch Reference RF-52s
Pioneer PL-560 with Stanton 681-EEE - Pioneer SA-5800 - 2 Polk TSX-110Bs
Here's my question. Is this a waste of money based on what I plan to do with it? Each of my amps has a phono stage, so I don't need the thing. I'm more than satisfied with the sound I'm getting, too. I just wonder if this will enhance it. It also looks cool, which might be distorting my interest in it. Should I pull the trigger or upgrade elsewhere?

I started buying vinyl about a year ago and didn't have much cash to spend, so I started out with an Audio Technica LP60 and an old Bose Sounddock. (Not good, I know)
Anyway, my collection has been steadily growing so I think it's time to upgrade pretty much everything. I read through the old posts and have narrowed down the turntable to LP120, Project Debut III, and U-Turn Orbit. Any suggestions on specific sound system set ups? Pretty much starting from scratch and would like to keep it under about $700 or so. Any help would be much appreciated

Use the Bellari as is first. If you don't know tubes, and then start changing thins up, you may make things worse. Also, when you hear about folks changing tubes out to achieve better sound, the tubes they are usually changing to are new old stock RCA, GE, Telefunken, Sletvania, or Russian military grade tubes. You may spend $60-$600 for a single input tube depending on the characteristic you are chasing.
For now, just leave the factory tube in it. Chances are, unless you have $4k upstream and $15k downstream, you won't hear a difference. You have to have detailed enough audio gear to allow the minute nuances to be heard.

Wanting to get into vinyl. What should I look into getting as for as record player, speakers, etc. I know jack shite about this stuff. Something in around the middle range price range. I listen to music constantly so it would get plenty of use. And maybe one where I could run my phone or computer through it for spotify.
