The whole album is a masterpiece. It's easily my favorite unplugged show.

It's one of the few songs I can play.

Still working on the solo after all these years.

Best band ever. Ushered in the Metallica "jumped the shark" moment, too. Bonus.

Love the Guild Jerry is playing.

Nutshell is my favorite Alice song. That song weighs heavy on you. Really puts you in a dark place.

"Friends don't let friends get friends haircuts."

Clearly this guy didn't graduate high school...

Nutshell unplugged is what got me into AIC. Awesome song and awesome album. Perfect opener.

I always thought he was referring to Metallica when he wrote that on his bass, but he very well could have been making a fun jab at Layne as well.

Absolutely a masterpiece of an unplugged show. I wish they would have included Don't Follow on the setlist.

He was - Metallica made their first public (at least high profile) appearance with their "Load" era short haircuts, and, as special guests of AIC, had front row center seats.

When Inez saw the haircuts, he rushed to get the bass decorated before the show started.

I'll file that under "things I did not know." I knew they chopped their locks for Load but didn't know they were front row guests. Super cool. Also of course the Enter Sandman riff when Layne said they were about to cut to an LL Cool J video. All around good night, very glad Layne pulled it together for the appearance.

Somewhat related, as the acoustic vibe for the unplugged show can be traced to the Jar of Flies EP - when AIC recorded "Jar of Flies" - Cantrell did not own an acoustic guitar. He borrowed bassist Mike Inez's Guild for the recording sessions (Inez had just joined the band that year, after the departure of Mike Starr, caused mainly by his heroin addiction - heroin is a terrible drug - ultimately killed half of the classic lineup of this great band).

Guild provided 2 acoustic guitars (a JF-30 and a D50 or D55, not 100%) for Unplugged and, reportedly Jerry still has those in his collection.

I'm sure Jerry had it dropped down a step for the acoustic show to get that haunting Chains tone. Classic set.

Also, Jerry must be like his dad Rooster. Nothing can kill the man. Glad he is still out kicking arse.

As I have played around with Nutshell - a lot - in my own amateurish way - the live show tuning is definitely lowered D#/Eb tuning. I can chord along with the recording and video at that tuning and it matches - and the parts of the solo I can keep up with Jerry, those notes sound in tune as well.

Good to know. I'll tune down and see if I can take a stab at it. Do you know who was blowing the harmonica on the studio version of Don't Follow?
