Zootopia had the best animation I've ever seen

A couple of shots even looked photo-realistic. In particular, the god-father mouse thing.
Also, the movie does a better job of giving audiences a sense of weight and scale than any animated movie I've ever seen.

Big Hero 6 is tops right now imo.

did it live up to the hype story wise?
I need to see this.

Story-wise, it was good. But I think it was a bit overhyped by the time I saw it. It's still a very enjoyable picture. I just preferred several other newer films over it. Wreck it Ralph, Princess and the Frog & Big Hero 6 were all better in my opinion.
But to the OP's point, the animation is very, VERY good.

This - the backdrops in that dino movie were as close to the real thing that I have ever watched in animation.

Backdrops are one thing. I haven't seen the movie but the dinosaur from the trailer and the baby don't look all that special.

It was a quality movie. You won't regret seeing it. Animation is top notch. Story is fine. The only failing for me is humor. Just wasn't that funny. I've gotten accustomed to laughing a lot during these kids movies.

if its better than good dinosaur, then it's great.... the opening of GD, the water looks real life... amazing how far animation/cgi has come

I didn't stop laughing during this movie. It was funnier than any that have come out over the past 5 years or so, no question.

The landscapes in Good Dinosaur were so unbelievably good looking.

Zootopia animation is definitely up there. Better story than Good Dinosaur. No animation to this point beats Good Dino's environment animation to me. The character animation is a real head-scratcher though.
Wall-E is the best combination of story and animation though.

Example of stunning animation in Good Dinosaur

Which is basically a painting. I ain't complaining. It's obviously great and required a lot of work. But it's a background. It's a nice painting.

The sloth part was hilarious although blunted from seeing it in previews.

It was a good movie for sure. I enjoyed it way more than my little guy(he told me he didn't understand it) It's pretty deep for really young kids. I'll always prefer more of a hand drawn look and hope Disney will do those from time to time but it did look great.
