They incompletely missed the mark on this goal. It didn't come across as 1940's cheese, it came across as bad film making.

The bottom line is that Captain America The First Avenger felt cohesive. Man of Steel felt like Snyder was trying to do some things that Nolan had done with Batman, but at the same time supe it up (pun intended) to where the fights were over the top and played out like something you'd see in Sucker Punch of 300. Then he tried to shove a love interest that made no sense into the movie and you came away with one of the most disappointing superhero movies of the last decade. Everything felt forced. The story was, itself, pretty good, but nothing felt real, nothing felt like it belonged together. Maybe Snyder was making some high meta statement about how out of place Superman was on Earth by making the movie a jumbled mess, but I doubt it.

I agree that one of Snyder's mistakes was attempting to place Superman in a Batman world. Krypton, Smallville, and Metropolis should be bright and alive, a contrast to Gotham.

I hate that guy so much

Idk why he missed the mark with MoS but he is still the guy that gave me Watchmen. Imo, not many other people could have made a better Watchmen movie, so I know he is capable of making a good superhero film. I'm willing to give him another shot simply because Watchmen is one of my favorites and the best superhero movie to date imo.

I loved his Watchmen movie.
We'd have been better served if he'd picked a few great Superman comics and copied them as closely as he did Watchmen. (Instead of the Superman stuff that he chose to incorporate.)
