Because we want good movies to be rewarded and crap movies to fail. If we keep rewarding garbage that's what Hollywood will continue to give us.

That's the thing though, comparing those is apple and oranges.

What's really competing is Iron Man to GotG 2

And

GL(failed so hard they couldn't start shared universe)/MoS to WW.

Everything else was from a different studio viewpoint of marketing.

Yet you have no idea with regards to the quality of this movie that you haven't seen.

As treatment I recommend that you stare at those gifs I posted. The only way to come to terms with reality is to face it.

I have a problem because I refuse to shite on a film before I've seen it? You're worse than an SJW.

So let me get this straight. You have never in your life watched a trailer and said "that looks like shite."

I guess you will have to go see Transformers The Last Knight to tell us for sure huh.

The difference is, the trailers for Wonder Woman haven't looked like shite. They appear to be on the level of superhero movies like Captain America: First Avenger, Thor, and Dr. Strange. Which is about the level that the pre-sale tickets are showing.

Who is this "we" you speak of? I speak for myself alone personally. So you're part of a group that is lobbying against this film? Tell me more...

Come on man. I'm just having some fun. This movie looks ridiculous and after the fanboys watch it and have a 48 hour cool down period they will come to their senses.

It's really nothing to be embarrassed about. I am the same way for Star Wars. It took me a very long time to admit that 1-3 were bad, but I came around eventually.

Eh, Superman is still seen as seminal film. Most people love Batman/Returns. And Nolan's trilogy is generally regarded as one of the great film trilogies.

Sure, Catwoman, Jonah Hex and Green Lantern got some heat, but are we really going to debate that? Superman Returns and Man of Steel both had fairly good responses. It's really only been BvS and SS recently...and again...even if some of it was exaggerated, it's not like a majority of the criticism was unfounded.

Mostly this

The great majority of the heat that the films have gotten has been deserved. I like a lot of things about MOS FWIW. B vs S was obviously terrible and SS had me looking at my watch whenever Harley wasn't bending over... but some of the older DC stuff is really really good. The cartoon versions of DC seem to be pretty widely regarded as excellent around here (much more than any cartoons Marvel put on screen).

Obviously there are fanboys for particular comics, but there are a lot of people who will branch out and really enjoy a comic on a big or small screen that they actually didn't consume on paper. (I was never a Deadpool fan and that turned out pretty great).

On the balance we have less of this (below) than a lot of media boards put up with:

Exactly. It's very fair around here.

I'd say, Fanboy is one of those terms that's starting to lose all of its meaning, because it's always "Fanboy this" and "Fanboy that." You can't prefer something anymore without being labeled a fanboy. You can't say Captain America > Superman, enjoy the Android platform, like Sony over Microsoft, say Fruity Pebbles is the great, like the Yankees and so forth. Well except for the Yankees. Anyone who still likes the Yankees is a terrible person, but I digress...

It's become the catch-all term to cast a wide net on an audience, downplay and disregard their opinion, and feel superior.

Everyone has preferences, fandom is just a step beyond that.

We are all fans. No fan is better than another fan. And the real fanboy, the real people who disregard all common sense for devotion to a product or a team, are super rare.

What i do like is the derogatory remarks that some sports or other type of fans (but let's not call them geeks i guess?) might make about video game fans or Star Trek fans or some other "nerdy" type of fan.

Is it really THAT much different liking the Cowboys over TNG? The guy who tracks the multitude of statistics around some baseball player's stats over a career is just as nerdy as the guy who figures out how many planets it takes to make the Death Star.

It's all pointless at the end of the day, really.

It's the first female lead superhero movie. Critics are going to pump it up even if it sucks.

ETA: See new Ghostbusters, Luke Cage (not near as good as the reviews), etc

So your thesis is that nothing matters and life is meaningless? I can support that.

And you're wrong, not all fans are equal. Any dipshits who make excuses for the prequels are not Star Wars fans.

I didn't say that.

I did say the fans who go against logic and common sense (and probably good taste too) exist, they are just far more rare than the ability to call everyone a fanboy.

As in, people who REALLY like all of the prequels and find value in them. I'm not sure i know a single person who does.
