Why don't they make a series of Star Wars?

Enter HBO or Netflix.

HBO can stop making the penis dragon show and start making something awesome like starwars

It likely would be cost prohibitive even with todays improved special effects. You would need movie budgets for a TV show.

Just watch the Clone Wars animated series and then the Rebels series after that. They are some amazing Star Wars to watch. There was an awesome three episode arc with Yoda learning the ways of the force and learning the skills that he would eventually use to contact Luke. It filled in some plot holes and was satisfying to watch.

Ahsoka Tano deserves to be in a live action movie. She's honestly one reason out of several on why Anakin turned to the dark side.

They would have to keep it appropriately rated. And I doubt Disney wants to touch a mature channel like HBO.

Netflix is plausible though.

Well thankfully for you that extremely successful "penis dragon" show has 2 seasons left. Than after that they could consider something like this. Even though I highly doubt they would.

The two series are already enough.

Hell Clone Wars alone has enough content to keep you binging for weeks....

I think too much Star Wars can be a bad thing. Waters down the product. I'm not sure having a new movie every year is going to turn out well.

The problem is - it isn't 1982 any longer. While Star Wars was always space opera or more fantasy than science fiction, the potential was there after the first 2 films and, even with its flaws, Jedi.

Flash forward to today. The canon is so jacked up (and I can't even blame Abrams - this is 100% on Lucas) that if you started a live action serialization, there's no telling where it would end up. And Star Wars just isn't Star Trek - to work, Star Wars has to be big, over-the-top. There just isn't the context there for a ship of exploration or other science fiction foundation upon which to build such a franchise.

At the end of the day, Star Wars is too big for the small screen.

I think a goofy sitcom could work. We could see what kind of hijinks Chewbacca's family gets into like the Christmas special.

Agree 100%

I would hate the idea of a star wars series with hollywood drama.

If it were to happen, the only thing I would be okay with them doing is creating new canon around the time of the Old Republic. That way it does not affect the current storyline too much.

I think it could work very well in the same aspect as Firefly was but with a Star Wars background. Random episodes you hear about the empire or rumors of Luke/Vader to keep fans interested.

You could tackle just the KOTOR era. There's tons of virgin territory, Sith and Jedi galore, and no formal timeline. It's 10,000 BBY.
