The color seems about 10 shades from normal, despite the show. Luther was the worst. Downton Abbey was improvement. Others just seem dreary. Any reason for this?

It's always overcast in England.

And they have bad teeth.

And bad food.

The Black Death darkened everything.

Europe is still recovering.

You don't have a British Cinema setting on your TV?

Perhaps consult the tech board.

It could be an attempt at realism. It's overcast there.

It's their national psyche.

BBC is government owned, they want to remind the public of their dreary lot in life and to accept their overlords and then watch a program glorifying their failures.
