Bonus question: Who wins in a matchup between the two?

Tywin. So long as I don't go nuts, I think he would give me sound advice on how to keep the kingdoms peaceful.

Roose Bolton, from the books not the show. Peaceful kingdom, justified rape, what more do you need?

They're both basically the same guy. I wonder how much GoT modeled Tywin after the Braveheart version Longshanks. Both were ruthless S.O.B.s who tried to set up their Empire for their mostly incompetent kids.

I wouldn't say any of the Lannister children are incompetent. Tyrion is a good battle commander, good advisor to Dany, and was a good hand to the king.

Jamie Lannister was one of the best swordsman alive and a good battle commander.

Cersei is just a bitch.

She has love for family but that's it. She thinks she's like her father but she's far from it.
But none of the 3 are like Tywin. Each of them of have certain aspects of him.

There are only 2 differences between Tyrion and Tywin:

1) Tyrion has a sense of humor.
2) Tyrion is sympathetic towards the weak.

If Tyrion were born of the same stature as his father, he'd be almost exactly the same as him. He may have smiled a bit more, but he always would have been Tywin's favored son, regardless if he killed Joanna in childbirth or not. Tywin hates Tyrion simply because he's a dwarf and sees the worst of himself in Tyrion.

Of those choices, obviously Edward. Game of Thrones isn't based on any realistic time period in human history so any advice he had to give would be pretty useless.

And I'd also like to point out as a public notification, the Middle Ages were much much much less violent than how they're portrayed in modern media. It isn't really till the 1500s that the fricked up shite starts happening.

And for his time FWIW, Edward was considered one of the great British monarchs and a key figure in developing parliament and a constitutional government

Tywin, Longshanks was too arrogant and lacked the proper level of healthy respect for his enemies.

Tywin's only mistake was underestimating Tyrion.

I wouldn't go that far. He fricked up just as big with his other two children. Despite being an effective ruler, him being a simply horrible father is what is ripping the Seven Kingdoms apart.

Technically, Rhaegar and Lyanna running off together combined with Littlefinger's having Jon Arryn killed are the two biggest reasons we are where we are.

The former not really since they could have established some foundation on that, but the later is entirely caused by Tywin being a shitty father.

He underestimated Rob Stark too. Was getting his arse kicked on the battlefield.
