re: While rewatching the Office, I'm more annoyed with Michael than before

Do not agree. Gervais's version was funny in its own right, but had no likeability at all. They didn't even try to get you to like him. They just piled the shite on. It was funny, but you thought he was an arse the whole time
Did you not watch the second season/series? I think it's pretty obvious you're meant to pity him. Then, the last episode is a pretty heartwarming redemredemption/personal cleansing for him.

Man, Nellie was such an awful decision. What were they thinking?

Just started season 9 on my re-watch and I forgot all about her even being on the show. She's awful. I'm not the biggest fan of Robert California either, but I know a lot on the board really like him.

I prefer David Brent over Michael Scott (although I'm a fan of both), but I'm not so sure I'm onboard with that. In that last episode, David didn't do anything to redeem himself IMO...and when he did finally "connect" with someone near the end, it was ambiguous enough where you could imagine he'd find a way to frick it up the very next day, lol...
On the other hand, I'd agree with that assessment in the 'Life On The Road' movie...while there were lots of funny moments, you really did see how pitiful David became, and how desperate he wanted to be liked.

Jim and Pam were immature a-holes to Dwight
I've said it before on here:
They were those smarmy average people in life who think they are smarter and better than everyone else - despite the fact that they aren't great successes and are often less accomplished than the people they condescend.
The reason Jim and Pam connect in the office is because their characters are written not to see flaws in themselves but always with the world around them. If the world lets them down, it's because everyone else is an idiot.

It's hard for me to hate on Jim as much as others do. Sure, he's done alot of douchey things, but on several occasions, he was also the only one who'd step up and watch someone's back when that person was on the verge of humiliation.

I liked Robert California a lot more on the second time around. I forgot a lot of this 9th season. I'm almost done with it.

Also, the farther I got into the series, the more I started to like Michael Scott again.

Funny, I'm rewatching it too and I'm getting towards the end. Michael already left. I've really come to appreciate Dwight this go around. Michael got better as the seasons went on. His craziness became less of a focal point.
Also, it continues to amaze me how they perfectly used Creed. He was so great. Had they used him any more it'd have been too much. But every time he was in a scene, I laughed

I agree.
Also, I see Jim and Pam as the people who recognize how crazy of a environment they are in. Whereas most other people (except Oscar and occasionally Stanley) act like this is normal. So I can relate to those characters

Yep, Dwight is the real star on this second watch.

Dwight has always been the star for me.

I think the end of the series vindicated Dwight as the good guy, and Michael to a lesser extent. Jim and Pam were awful people and you realize it more on rewatch.
Creed is timeless.

Creed's really insightful speech at the end while in handcuffs is great.

Jim and Pam were the normal people in an office of misfits. They were there to be the characters a lot of viewers could relate to. Everyone else in the office was such an exaggerated character. Individually, I liked them and the role they played within the show. A lot of that was lost when they got engaged and married as the focus switched to their struggles as a young married couple. In some ways, the whole show did which is why I lost interest in it.
Michael was annoying, and I think that was the point. The show thrived off his awkwardness and how that awkwardness played off each of the other characters.

This is the best point of thread. I think people are taking the show WAY too seriously. There's a reason it is called a MOCKumentary.

Edit: Also, Stanley is the best character.
The episode where he was coming back from his heart attack, and they couldn't remember if he had a mustache or not was hilarious. Partly because I was sitting there watching trying to remember that myself. I always thought he did, but when the characters were questioning it, I was second guessing myself.

I've rewatched The Office a hundred times, and Michael still kills me. I hate the episodes after he leaves.

Jim's character became less fun and carefree after he got engaged to/married Pam and then got the promotion to co-manager. I enjoyed when Michael put him in his place in the episode "Murder".
Also, they totally destroyed Andy's character in season 9. His whole storyline throughout the series was this buildup to finding Erin, he was actually a good regional manager, and then they destroyed all of that.
