While rewatching the Office, I'm more annoyed with Michael than before

First go around I thought he was much funnier than I do now. I just find him obnoxious and I've rarely laughed at him this time through.

I recently started a rewatch, I'm in the middle of season 3 and felt the same way. I wasn't sure if it was the binge watch, just seeing him be awful for 3 or 4 episodes a night as opposed to one or two a week. In the first season he was unbareable but I think they figured it out a bit after that.

I'm a little behind you. I'm really appreciating Dwight more though.

I hate Pam more and more with every rewatch.
It is truly sad how she was usually complicit in Jim's pranks on Dwight. Not only did Dwight never even suspect her or speak ill of her, but he took her as a friend.
Such a treacherous woman...

Jim and Pam were immature assholes to Dwight

I'm also re-watching. I was annoyed by Michael on the 1st go around, but have a greater appreciation of him this time.
He's GOAT of bosses.
Also, I appreciate Dwight more, but I understand why the pranks by Jim and Pam were needed.

Yes, but Jim was very open with his shenanigans. Pam never owned up to her part.

Pam is The Office to Rachel Friends. Both are self-serving narratives.
Pam knew she was attractive, but played coy. Was engaged to Roy yet still flirts with Jim. Jim does beyond everything a normal male would do to win a girl over and she's still not 100% with him. Jim could have done much better picking Rashida Jones character. She was going to challenge him and deserved Jim.
Same for Ross in Friends. Rachel doesn't deserve Ross at all. She trips over her pokey nips into awesome jobs with no qualifications and anytime things turn sour, it's poor little Rachel.

Was never a fan of USA Office because Scott seemed to get more annoying as the shoe went on.
David Brent on the other hand actually becomes a far more likeable guy by the end of the original UK run. He begins as an annoying a-hole but becomes an extremely sad, somewhat tragic figure by the end who truly loves what he does... It's all he has. He's not the real a-hole, it's all the people around him who begin the show as "normal" and "regular."
The genius of Gervais was he showed that Brent was actually the sweetest person on the show. In a way, USA version did the same, but to a lesser effect I thought with Scott. Too much emphasis on the couple being the "good guys" when actually they weren't

Even if so, the show really started to run out of steam once he left.

Absolutely. This was their "Jump the Shark" moment. Never was any better and some of the last episodes were so forced it became almost unwatchable.

The show for me became uncomfortable to watch, and maybe that was part of what they wanted to do.

In my two rewatches, I found myself more and more annoyed with Pam. The first time through, I was blind d by my crush on her, but later I began to see just how selfish she is. Jim also lost a lot of his luster in the later seasons. I'm almost sympathetic to the view that they are actually the antagonists of the show.

I'm watching for the first time (just started season 5).
I hated Michael with a passion until about mid season 3. Now I love the bastard. It started to change for me when he was the only one from the office to make it to Pam's art show.

It's the opposite for me. I'm almost done my first rewatch and I appreciate his character more. Not necessarily for the jokes, but just how consistent his character is. But he still makes me laugh
Jim is the one I have a different opinion on. I never realized how much of a little bitch he is. And at the same time he is a huge dick. How can someone be a bitch and a dick at the same time?

They date Pam.
Roy was the same way.

My biggest takeaway is how sad Andy's plot line is.
He did some stupid self-serving shite, but he didn't deserve to get cuckolded by his co-worker, dumped twice, replaced because Robert California was Robert California and then get nationally humiliated.
Edit: Also, Stanley is the best character.

I never thought Roy was a bitch. He manned up when needed. Tried to kick Jim's arse. Jim was a straight up pussy

Had the opposite experience when we watched over the last several weeks. He annoyed me a bit in the first go round. He was more endearing the second time. Jim was much less likeable the second time through, which was weird.
I really wish they could have had Erin in the show from the beginning, she cracked me up. Forgot how funny she was.
Do not agree. Gervais's version was funny in its own right, but had no likeability at all. They didn't even try to get you to like him. They just piled the shite on. It was funny, but you thought he was an arse the whole time.

Exactly right. It became almost a chore to watch at the end. Which is a shame Bc even without Michael it could've still been funny. But introducing so many useless characters and neutering Andy just ruined it.
