I don't get the love for these guys. The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd were far more important to music than the Stones.

I read the thread you started on that a couple of weeks ago. It's very foreboding.

CONTROVERSY:

slavery

without it we wouldn't have the progression from spirituals > blues > rock and roll

we'd still be wearing puffy blouses and powdered wigs and exclaiming,"oh what a lively etude my dear Sebastian!"

So I guess what I'm saying is, thank God for slavery.

If you are a Rock fan like myself, the worst thing to ever happen was the song "Walk This Way" by Aerosmith and Run DMC! That song wasnt the first Rap song but it gave rap legitimacy as a genre of music. That song springboarded Rap into mainstream radio. Now, ironically, Rock is looking for a way back into mainstream radio. It is virtually dead to teenage kids these days. Look at the Billboard top 20, there wont be one true Rock song on the list. No, Maroon 5 and Coldplay doesnt count. Counry music on the other hand has benefited tremendously from Rap music. Rockers are turning to Country music for a home. Country Rock has become a HUGE genre and is where the money is. I think the music industry is actually suffering from a lack of a Rock presence. Just my two cents!

Youre not pissed about the lack of rock on the radio you're pisses about the lack of quality music on the radio.

Because make no mistake there is rock on the radio. Its just extremely bad in most of our eyes. (By our I mean people who grew up listening to The golden age of rock n roll, the 60s and 70s). And just like how there is good rap music out there its getting harder and harder to find it on the radio. This is a direct result of the file sharing boom. The money behind it all is less willing to take a chance on new and interesting music so you get what we have now. Pre fabricated over done pop music that they know will sell. What you fail to realize is that if you cut off your radio and dig around and find your own music you will see that for every one of those terrible bands you will find 3 more great bands. Which is also a direct result of file sharing up and comers no longer need the radio to be heard.

I'm going to say the electric guitar. It's the most versatile instrument of all time and every single sounds and human emotion can be channeled through one.

Electricity in general. Amplifiers, speakers, stereos, walkmen, CD and DVD players, radio stations, downloads, arena concerts, electronic drums, and autotune.

All impossible without Benjamin Franklin.

If people are going to post The Beatles and/or Elvis, you might as well just go right to the source with everyone on the Chess Records label. Little Walter, Muddy Waters, Memphis Slim, etc.

Personally, I think the influence of Chuck Berry was huge.

With the exception of your last line (which sane posters understand is tongue in cheek--I hope...), that's not very controversial.

I would add that the melting pot that is America was the impetus for much of the creation of ALL of our American music (from blues to jazz to rock to hip hop). And don't get me started on the theory of the origin of spirituals and how all of that stuff is more mixed than many people think...

If you truly believe that then you're extremely ignorant.

I came here to say "Black Oppression"

Beat me to it. But you're right.

It made the blues which is what the Stones, Beatles, Clapton, Hendrix, Elvis, King, etc were all born out of.
