The comedies and cheesy movies are good, but nothing was more 80's than when they were being edgy and cool, for the time. Against All Odds is super 80's in every way, but presented as what people thought was cool, which we did. It's the equivalent of 70's people seeing old pictures of themselves wearing butterfly collars and leisure suits.

So three pages and nobody has yet to mention RAD! C'mon now you have to have Rad when talking 1980's, only the Eighties would have movies about BMX bikes.

Send me an ANGEL, RIGHT NOW! Young Aunt Becky HAVE MERCY

Yeah, I kind of see that.

There is another thing that many people don’t realize about the 80s, and that is there is a generational gap between the early 80s and the late 80s. The early 80s folks were really influenced by a different generation, so it may skew how the whole “80s” are viewed by those who lived it.

Although I graduated high school in 1986, I was only 17 years old, so I consider myself much different from people who are just a year or two older than me for I relate more with the late 80s to mid 90s, musically and culturally really - which makes me one the older gen-exers.

How about Taps, or All the Right Moves.
Also Vision Quest, or Gotcha.

Only one film had the perfect balance between the two:

The inter dimensional Key was mistaken for some Japanese synthesizer/light show

And it even included the most 80s cinematic obsession of all, cover your ears millennials, midgets:

Reminds me of the early 80's. California youth culture was about 3 years ahead of everyone else back then.

Any of the John Hughes movies.

The original Wall St. could hit theaters today and no one would be the wiser. Same clothes, hair, and general theme as Wall St. today.

Yeah...it's one thing to be the same age as the teenagers in the movies and another thing to be a kid influenced by those teenagers in the movies.

I think if you were a kid in the 80's - those movies have more impact than if you were a peer of those on screen.

But back to your point...early 80's have a different feel than late 80's.

It seems 1984 might be the perfect cut-off point. 1983 movies and before just seem to have a different feel - like a different decade.

Early 80's really isn't 80's to me...when I reference the 80's - I'm thinking 1984-1988.

I'd say bill and Ted.

I thought Red Oaks season 1 did a great job of channeling the 80s really well
