It turns that Garfield insulted Sony chief Kaz Hirai by snubbing him last summer in Rio de Janeiro at a big Sony gala celebrating the end of the World Cup. Kaz had planned to introduce Garfield as the star of “Spider Man 3? set for 2016 in a speech before 750 guests. But Garfield, having just arrived in Rio, made a huge mistake. He snubbed Kaz and never came down for dinner. Yikes. In Rio this didn’t go well, and the bad feeling reverberated. An email alerting everyone read: “Here we are about one hour away from our Gala event and Andrew decides he doesn’t want to attend. He has a rather scruffy beard and he just wants to be left alone.”

If this is a pattern, then ok.

But if that's all that happened, seems like an excessive reaction.

I think they're just using as an excuse because Sony doesn't want to admit they have no idea what they're doing.

The fact is that Spiderman 2 was a huge step back from the first one and significantly underperformed their expectations, especially after they dumped $200M into marketing the movie. Combining with Marvel going forward was by far the best way to ensure success because clearly Sony didn't understand what went wrong.

Not in Japanese culture. They're very strict. If you don't show respect, you're fricking done whether it makes busin ss sense or not.

Garfield did himself a favor. Go film and promote your Scorsese film, bud.

I still haven't seen it, on the flip side I have seen every MCU movie the weekend it came out in IMAX.

Sounds like this is more of a problem with Sony and not with Garfield.

This.

Guy strikes me as a top-flight douche though, I mean how can he not be with that incredibly punchable face? And don't even get me started on that pouty voice of his.

Now if someone can only figure out what it takes to insult the Fox heads for Xmen and FF4 we would be onto something.

By all accounts, he's an entitled little douchebag. This episode doesn't surprise me.

By what accounts though?

I'm not trolling either. I googled "Andrew Garfield is a douchebag" and I see a lot of internet discussion that his Peter Parker was a dickhead compared to Macguires but the only story(see link) that is attributed to Garfield himself is an Oscar presenter story that apparently has been debunked and he did nothing wrong.

I think this is more a culture difference than anything at all. Lost in this social justice warrior climate is the fact that different parts of the world work differently. Most people would be pissed if someone came into their store and haggled like it's India or the middle east.

Japan is crazy with this stuff, losing face is probably the worst thing that can happen. That being said, it's hilarious to watch that culture in a meeting when something goes wrong,as confrontation is massively frowned upon. Even though it's obvious to everyone in the room one person fricked up, they will all take turns taking the blame.

Me neither. Garfields Parker was much more of the way I pictured Peter than Tobey Maguire.
Plus didn't he also slam Sony for basically having no idea what they were doing with the franchise?

He was supposed to have a segment at the Oscars with Batkid last year but he decided not to do it when he didn't like his lines. Only after public outcry did he send Batkid and his family to Disney World.
