But Luke brought his lunchbox to work every day and his motor never quit and he was like a Jedi coach out in the field, amirite?

To be honest though, Luke comes off as something of a jobber in the original trilogy. Maybe it's different in the expanded universe but I never read any of that stuff.

Honestly, they didn't emphasize this enough. He just sat around acting wise the whole time (and failing) and didn't really do crap until he faced off with Palpatine. It's clear from Episode I that he was the McGuffin for Anakin's point of no return and that he'd be responsible for Mace's death. How awesome would it have been to have Mace have Anakin kicked out of the Jedi Order, then in Episode III Anakin meets up with Maul and Mace fighting to the death, and Anakin decides to kill them both and blame Mace's death on Maul? Of course he's caught in the act of killing Mace, and he goes into a Jedi hunt to save his own arse. Really Anakin becomes Vader without even realizing it, while he was tricked in the name of love in the prequels. This three way duel was definitely one of the biggest missed opportunities in the prequels.

I don't know anything about Star Wars canon except for the movies and in that regard I'd have to put Obi Wan pretty damn high.

Defeated Darth Maul.
Defeated General Grievous.
Defeated Anakin when he wasn't an old man in a robot suit.
Co-trained / guided Luke with Yoda.
Only lost when he was deliberately struck down.

Vader had a really weak schedule

Luke has a loss but you gotta use the eyeball test. Vader got a weak obj wan to throw the fight. If he wants to be the champ, he needs to fight the best of the best

What was his midichlorian count? Ha.

1. Yoda - Greatest Force User

I'm sure being alive and studying/training for 900 years helped.

2. Mace Windu - Most skilled with the saber. He beat the Emperor and was only killed because of a traitor (the emperor lost, he did not give in. Mace is pretty awesome)

No kidding. Palpatine sliced through those three other masters in a few seconds then proceeded to get his butt whipped.

How come Qui-Gon Jinn isn't making the list? Haha.

But Luke was not the greatest of all time with the things we've seen already. However, he was obviously a quick study in the Force that was strong with him.

Who knows what he's learned in the 30+ years he's been off camera.

Obi wan f*cked Anakin up in revenge of the sith. And the second time they fought Obi Wan LET vader kill him so Luke and Han could get away. And he killed Darth Maul and general Grievous. Anakin killed count Dooku, some sand people, a bunch of padawans, his wife, and an unsuspecting emperor. To put Anakin in front of Obi Wan is just naive IMHO.

Dooku was a badass, though. Even if the movie portrayal didn't hammer that across.

I kind of agree with this. Maybe it was more of a tie?

Although, Anakin learned to become a Force ghost pretty quickly after the prequels (and cartoon) tell you it requires training.

Just putting Padawans in there makes his crimes a bit better than they are. Really, he goes on a rant about it in Episode II in front of Padme and she didn't immediately leave him or alert the Jedi Council that her protector is a serial killer: LINK

But Padme seems pretty surprised when Obi Wan tells her that Anakin killed children. He told you that before you were even in a relationship, and you don't think he'd do it again? LINK

It's kind of implied that he's been with Yoda for a few months.

Haha. Which goes back to Luke being a quick study and pretty powerful. From "A New Hope" to "Empire" is 4-5 years, and I want to say "Jedi" is a year after "Empire." Luke learned a lot in that year, it seems.

I am beginning to wonder more how time "works" in the films. I mean, how long does their hyperspace travel actually take between star systems? Can't be instantaneous. Should at the very least be weeks or months, but I'm willing to bet it is implied to be only hours. However, good evidence that its longer than we think is that somehow Boba Fett beats the Falcon to Bespin, alerts Vader, and has Vader beat the Falcon as well to set up the deal with Lando.

Edit to add: More time (weeks) would also help with the bond Luke forms with Obi-Wan and the training he gets from him as they travel to Alderaan. Also, more time allows for the Rebellion to actually study the Death Star plans to come up with their attack before the Death Star gets there (but that is hurt by the fact that Luke and Leia are obviously wearing the same dirty clothes in the briefing).

This thread has been really entertaining with the more athletic and motor never quits stuff, so I will just go ahead and leave this here...
