Why do jennifer and David run away from the helicopter on goose island? David says, "the bastard turned us in!" While angry.

This is weird because in order to turn them in, Dr. Faulken would have to call the government. Calling the government is exactly what David and Jennifer went to goose island to ask dr. Faulken to do.

they don't know who it is and as he is running from the FBI that would seem a logical conclusion to draw.

yeah, well if you think about it sure, but while you are sitting contemplating swimming 2-3 miles and pondering the end of the world, and how you regret never learning to swim would it really occur to you, hey it can't be the cops because Faulken wants to remain anonymous. Oh and they want him to call NORAD, him calling the local cops as his fake name reporting trespasers doesn't = him calling NORAD.

The worst is how Sheedy sets him up for the big revelation of tic TAC toe...

Everyone is freaking out in NORAD, were all about to die and Sheedy turns to Broderick while he's busy trying to save the world...

"I told you not to start playing games with that thing."

"Games?"

Falken just told them they were close enough to a primary target to be vaporized. At least if the fbi or cops catche them, they have a chance to love if they get moved.

Lol. I know right. He just said it. Dude had some bad lower teeth. Probably all that red man.

I like his line that says something like, "mr. Mckitrick I've come to the conclusion that your new machine sucks."

Very close -

"Mr. McKittrick, after very careful consideration, sir, I've come to the conclusion that your new defense system sucks."

I don't think that is why they were trying to leave but it is a natural instinct to run from the what you think are the cops when you are wanted by the FBI and escaped from them (and a safe place) already.

You are trying to hard to nitpick.

I remember seeing this in the theater.

I was in high school. Height of the fricking Cold War. World on edge.

Rattled me, for sure.

Caught it on HBO On Demand a while back with my son and one of his friends. They were on edge the whole fricking time.

:thumbs up:

Other fun facts from the movie:

I always loved the guard that's hitting on the blond by asking her about her tennis play. Sexual harassment at it finest.

David's dad smokes a pipe.

I like the old pull tabs on Coke cans. I tried to get a pay phone to work using the trick in the movie. No dice.

Jennifer and David are drinking Tab while booking a trip to Paris.

I really like the banter with Melvin and the other computer guy. "You're giving away our best tricks!"

My favorite exchange of theirs is when the nerd tells the geek:

"Remember you told me to tell you when you were acting rudely and insensitively? Remember that? You're doing it right now."

David was in the custody of "the government" previously and he ran; nobody was listening to him, he needed Falken to give him credence

Mr potato head! Mr. Potato head! Back doors are not tricks!

David's act as a simpleton, at times, is too juvenile. Like when he talks about his report card with his dad.

I liked his mom saying they were going to bar be que tonight and he could invite his little friend.

I always figured Corbin was cast to be S.A.C.'s boss Curtis Lemay. I could've watched a whole movie with him just as the General.

Definite time capsule movie. Everything pertains to the 80's and Cold War politics. But without any cheesy Russian accents.

We still use a program at work that is DOS. Every time I see it used I say or think "Greetings professor Falken". I'm old only half of my coworkers know what the hell I am talking about.

Old screen too. Blinking cursor that is only an underscore, arrow keys are essential, and "F-keys" are used.

Their commercials always show the "cutting edge" of medicine that we strive for. That desktop needs to be left in a commercial.

This movie holds a lot of special nostalgia for me. I was in middle school around that time and had gotten into computers prior to seeing the movie. Some of the stuff David was doing in the movie was the exact stuff we were doing. If you had a 2400 baud modem you were a god. Him setting the computer to dial out area codes and prefixes and logging results on a dot matrix, phreaking, was just awesome to see in a movie.

As David was leaving the 7-11, with a 39 cent Big Gulp, you could see that a carton of smokes was $6.99. In some places, you can't get a pack for that much now.

This, plus if it had been the FBI, they were taking him to a prison in Colorado, not back to NORAD.

I watched it for about the 50th time a couple of weeks ago.

I was out of college and living on my own when it came out but it was still awesome for me. When I was a senior (1977) the aerospace class at my h.s. did a tour of Barksdale. They let my physics class go too. We went into their control center and, much like they did in the movie, they got us involved. I got to type in a hello message to Greenland and they typed us back a message. The guy pulled it off of the printer and gave it to me. I kept it for years.
