Ben Caspar's autopsy reveals the gruesome details of his demise, and Ray and Ani wonder if it has anything to do with his fondness for prostitutes. Meanwhile, Frank looks into what might have happened to his missing fortune.

I personally enjoyed the first episode. Looking forward to tonight

I personally hated the first episode, but still like everyone involved and hopefully now that the the story is set up it will pick up.

I wasn't a big fan of episode 1, but I feel like with 4 lead characters you almost have to spend the first episode as an intro. The way it ended gave me faith that it will pick up

Can't wait to see this shite show of a thread tonight.
"erhmergherd the first episode wasn't as good as the first season waah"
Give me a break.

I'm looking forward to it and think this will be another great season.

I felt the same way when I watched season 2 of The Wire for the first time -- first episode, after waiting about 9 months and thinking it was all going to be a big gangbang war with Omar and the Queers vs. The Barksdales. I was pissed to see these white dock workers on my screen and I kept wondering if maybe Avon Barksdale was setting up another stash house/hideout on the docks.

After seeing the second episode, that season would become my favorite season all time of any HBO show. As much as I thought Chris Bauer would ruin the series, he gave it an edge it didn't have prior.

This is the way I feel that True Detective -- also season 2 -- will work out for all of us.

Any one develop a ridiculous theory based on a minor detail that has nothing to do with anything remotely related to the plot and adamantly defends this hypothesis at nauseum yet?

Greenwald on Grantland said Ep 2 > Ep 1 and Ep 3 > Ep 2

So we'll see

I didn't watch the first season, but I checked out episode 1 of season 2: it was awful. The writing was pathetic (the female cop's entire perspective of the world was literally just told to the audience), the characters are all too familiar (stereotypical drunk cop with a broken view of the world? real fresh), and the directing really just laughable. Can anyone honestly say they didn't burst out laughing on that last shot of the episode when the 3 detetectives arrived at the crime scene?

All that said, I'm giving this season one more episode tonight. I can chalk up a bad first episode to problems in setting up a story; hopefully things will start to improve now that we got the shitty character intros out of the way and we can get into the meat of the story. I'm a pretty hesitant though, as poor writing and flat characters tend to carry across episodes.

I need to go check out season 1. I can't imagine it struggling near as much as the first episode of season 2 did given how highly it was received

the hour and a half (from exterior of the bar to the point where mustache actually speaks) they took to set up the bar scene where mustache hands over the laptop to vince Vaughn was what sent me over the edge.

That scene pushed the episode from a 6 to a solid 7.5.

Colin Farrell is going to be the star of the season by far. I'm interested to see how Vince Vaughns character evolves.
