when facing Luthor yes but if you were to go with other villains then he is not.
well it's kind of silly to just make basically gods to put superman in danger and create drama
batman and spider-man may be special, but normal humans can kill them both with bare hands

good point, but I think I may be on of the people on the side of less realism in my superhero movies. I think the near invincibility of Superman is what makes him my favorite character and the I'm rich and going to build some toys aspect of Batman is what makes him one of my least favorite.

Echoing many others here: not a Snyder fan, but I think he really fricking nailed this. Looks fricking amazing.

I thought Spider-man was actually a little tougher to kill than the average human, no?

In any event, the scene where Superman is flying near Earth looks great

I've always been a big Supes fan but wasn't really feeling this movie (especially the scale-looking tights), this trailer made spooge though (just a little).

Saw where Viggo Mortensen was originally considered for this role. IMHO I can't see Viggo playing any villain. Lord of the Rings does that to ya.

Superman doesn't have to fight god like monsters to have trouble in a battle. Anyone with kryptonite, magic users, or exposure to a red sun can kick his arse.
If Warner would get their shite together and create a DC film universe they could eventually do a Kingdom Come trilogy that would rock the house.
DC would then just need to stop being frickers and take Captain Marvel back to what he was before their horseshite emo rebranding as Shazam. Give me the damn Captain Marvel movie you had planned with the Rock as Black Adam to help set it up damn it!
Having a former Supes fanboy with powers that can take him out being controlled by Luthor and Sivana would be sick on the big screen.
ok, childlike nerd rage off.

Not the biggest Superman fan here but that trailer was great and Im on board for seeing it

I am one of Superman's biggest detractors, but.. Wow, that looks really good. Looks like it does a great job of a] exploring the isolation/ humanity of Superman, b] actually having a serious threat to the city/ Earth.
In Nolan we trust. So say we all.

This trilogy without Darkseid will be a failure

Not a big Snyder or Supe fan, but this does look promising.

Pa Kent's response of "maybe" to the question, "Should I have let them die" is way out of character. Hopefully that line is presented far out of context.
I don't think it is. This film is exploring the (potential) hostility the world would feel toward a person like Superman. Clark means everything to Jonathan and the last thing he wants is to see government agents come and take Clark away from him. By exposing himself, Clark risks just such a scenario. The way Jonathan says the line, it's almost as if he doesn't believe himself when he says "maybe".

I'm not a big Superman guy, but I'm really excited about this movie! This trailer just added to that!

Yes, you did. He is playing the film's villain - General Zod, a Kryptonian with the same superhuman powers as Superman.
Can't say I'm excited about Zod's inclusion and wish they went with a different villain not so tied to Superman's origins. Also think Luthor should have been somewhere in the film, perhaps being the chief person against Superman's entrance to this world, but not be the main antagonist.

I don't think that's what it's trying to do and, even if that is the ultimate goal of this movie, it would go against everything the character stands for. Superman is the comic book world's version of Jesus Christ. He's a Messiah figure that the world looks up to and idolizes. He's not supposed to represent that average, every day person on the street. He's a symbol for what humanity strives to achieve. Superman is that beacon of strength and perfection that we all look up to, and all hope to become someday. Even if that goal is unattainable, we work for it every day and better ourselves as a result. That's what Superman is and that's why people don't like him in the modern era.
Honestly, the type of villain I think they need to go for is a villain that challenges this Messiah figure and his boy scout mentality. Zod can't do this really. I'd go with a villain in the sequel who will make Superman choose between the people and things he loves and his role as savior of the world. Maybe a World War III scenario when a villain as or more powerful than Superman comes in, knows Superman's identity, and uses it against him to try and keep him out of the war.

I personally think the reason why people find him "boring" is because he's faced off against Lex Luthor in every single movie they have made. After a while, Luthor becomes boring because he's human and therefore not much of a challenge to Superman. Using villains like Zod, Darkseid, Doomsday and Brainiac - villains who are as powerful if not more so than Superman - would make the character far more interesting and the stakes much much higher.
He doesn't have to be the main antagonist though. In the films all his plans have been bullshite real estate schemes that are absolutely retarded, and is no where close to the Luthor we know today. Make him more calculating and someone who has bigger plans for "saving the world" that Superman directly interferes with and pisses him off. Definitely don't make him comic relief like all the past films have. I'd personally just make him president.
