I personally think the reason why people find him "boring" is because he's faced off against Lex Luthor in every single movie they have made. After a while, Luthor becomes boring because he's human and therefore not much of a challenge to Superman. Using villains like Zod, Darkseid, Doomsday and Brainiac - villains who are as powerful if not more so than Superman - would make the character far more interesting and the stakes much much higher.

That's definitely part of the reason but not the only one. The numbers on Supermans comic sales don't touch Batman's and you're getting every villain from his rogue's gallery plus new additons all the time.

I've never been a huge Superman fan. I've always enjoyed Batman much, much more, but that shite looks awesome. Definitely looking forward to this now.

That's why I would just take comics from the store while you weren't looking.

i get what you are saying i just dont agree with it.

He is not too powerful. He has weakness that all the villains exploit. ie humans.

I don't think that's what it's trying to do and, even if that is the ultimate goal of this movie, it would go against everything the character stands for. Superman is the comic book world's version of Jesus Christ. He's a Messiah figure that the world looks up to and idolizes. He's not supposed to represent that average, every day person on the street. He's a symbol for what humanity strives to achieve. Superman is that beacon of strength and perfection that we all look up to, and all hope to become someday. Even if that goal is unattainable, we work for it every day and better ourselves as a result. That's what Superman is and that's why people don't like him in the modern era.

Even a Messiah figure will have internal conflict about whether or not he is doing the right thing or is causing more harm than good. That's what it looks like they are trying to do here. He will have his internal struggle, sometimes for selfish reasons, but in the end will choose to do what he thinks is right. In short, character development that we never saw in any other Superman movie.

I think he meant relatable as a person, not necessarily with their superpowers. Obviously no one can relate to shooting webs or being a billionaire playboy, but we can relate to Spiderman being a high school kid with everyday problems or Batman trying to work through life after a personal tragedy. I'm not dogging Superman at all, but I think people see him as a big boy scout, goody two shoes type.

I agree with everything you wrote. It looks like we will most definitely see character development in this incarnation of Clark Kent/Superman.

Yep. Like in that trailer with the bus situation. Does he save the people on it and risk being exposed as a super being, or let them all die but no one knows who he is? Obviously it seems he chose the former.

Spider-Man, yes. Broke kid (like most of us), not perfect, but funny and caring. Batman, not so much, in my opinion. Too dark and too mega-rich. Actually back when I was a kid, too silly.

I think Supes is the epitome of good (hence Christ-like), and stands above everyone else. I don't relate to him, true, but that makes him ideal for comic lore and fantasy. He has always been my favorite because his stories press the bounds of the imagination.

I agree with this. The problem was with Luthor's portrayal in the movies - intelligent yet used as comic relief in many instances. In the comics, Luthor is in no way comical, yet much more intelligent and diabolical.

I don't really care for Superman as a character and I haven't been excited for the movie. That being said, that trailer is much better looking than I expected and has me curious to see more. Would be cool if they can make this a good movie.

agreed

Pa Kent's response of "maybe" to the question, "Should I have let them die" is way out of character. Hopefully that line is presented far out of context.

Ma and Pa Kent are two of the most important people in that story's universe. You can't have them being wishy-washy when it comes to the sanctity of life.

when facing Luthor yes but if you were to go with other villains then he is not. That has always been the issue with the Superman movies. I'm glad Zod is in this one.
