How fricked up is it that the crowd are cheering this shite on thinking that possibly one of their stronger males of that group could get bit, and then die? If it were me, entertainment or not, that is incredibly stupid and I wouldn't be cheering along. To lose an asset like that is just retarded. Those people are fricking cult like.

I think that's the point. The Governor tries to act like its such a normal settlement, but in reality, it is nothing like that.

It's definitely a cult and the show has been going lengths trying to convey that ... U can't leave, the gladiator fight, mochenne(sp) saying "whatever this place is saying it is, it isn't", the gov and his list, the crowd that pretty much worships him, etc

What Gets me is that Andrea watches Merle talk to the armed watchmen for like 5 mins before "letting them" go and still doesn't notice anything is wrong, even after the gov tells her about holding walkers, but won't tell her why. Even after the ninja chick begs her and tries to show her the light, but andrea's character has always been hard headed,...a

You really have to sympathize with those folks though. They probably were scared out their minds with everything that has been happening and they offered the only sense of normalcy. I don't fault the people because the average schmuck probably doesn't know anything- though there seems from the stands there can be no more than say 40 people total.

Michonne is a great character and she is a real character. Her emotions are about as authentic as you can get for someone being thrust into these situations. Andrea has to be the worst written character on the show but I will say Michonne is one of the best. The jadeness, distance, etc. Now, I will not vouch for her skillz with a sword but if you're using it everyday for a year...safe to say you're pretty equipped to use it.

Just started watching the first season tonight, but have already been started on third and at this point. It seems season 1 is a lot different than season 3 in the way the characters are towards the zombies. But it especially seems that within the governors society. With the people cheering on the gladiators who they think might die, it almost seems as if the governor is not only trying to desensitize the people to zombies, but also to human life. Maybe having a personal little army?

Just my 2 cents though. Have a lot of catching up to do before I can make any real assumptions.

Nailed it. It's a cult. The Governor gets people to stay with the promise of a better life. That's on the first page of the "cult leader" handbook.

Well that's not even remotely true.

ETA: And they don't need electricity to work either (at least not on one end). Maybe the time the generators were on allows the phones to work for a while.

FWIW, I assume the phone is either Rick's imagination or coming from inside the prison. And no, I don't need a comic-reader to make some sort of sly comment in response to my theory.

The gladiator thing seems completely out of place and random.

Also I'm guessing the phone is just Rick further falling into insanity.

He's completely lost it since Lori died and he was on weird, bad terms with her. He doesn't even acknowledge Glen and attacks him instead, it's not that far off that he would hear an imaginary phone ringing, I mean when have we ever seen a phone in use on this show?

Walkies? Okay, Telephones, no.

Well, I don't have any great love for Andrea and her decision making abilities.

But, I think if I was faced with a choice of wandering around "outside" where you could bump into a heard around any corner and staying in Woodbury where there is some semblance of safety, I'd have to give the latter choice some serious consideration.

Of course it's looking like that place (or at least the leaders) are all kinds of crazy and it may actually turn out to be more dangerous inside. But with what we know (and particularly with what Andrea knows since we got a little peak behind the curtains) I think it's a legit choice to stay.

It was just unexpected for me. We always knew that the Governor was insane, with the aquarium of heads, but we always thought the people in Woodbury were normal and just in the dark. Now we realize that they have been drinking the koolaid that he has been giving them

I bet you thought the same thing about that black prisoner that rick threw outside and heard him screaming and his flesh being torn, didn't you?

I think that'd be a cool twist, but apparently they said on the Talking Dead that the tea is irrelevant. Just had something to do with one of the writers drinking tea all the time or something like that

so you think after the scene with the zombie with the distended belly who was full from eating a person 15 ft from where lori was, that they were not implying that the zombie ate lori's body? they spend exactly 1 second on every other zombie kill rick has but this one gets significant time and overkill for no reason at all?

edit: also the creator of the show has stated that she is indeed dead after last week's episode.

Did the director of that episode confirm that the prisoner was dead? Because that happened with Lori. She's dead. People need to stop trying to outsmart themselves.

1) There are thousands of sheriff bags out there. That's one.

2) I know the TV Governor is way different from the comic Governor, but so what. I haven't read the comics but I get the impression it is a story of absolute CHAOS. Main characters die right away, rape, ect. On TV that would only work as an HBO miniseries. For a long-running series you need a little more structure. And the TV Governor is plenty interesting as he is.

3) Walkers inside the wall, locked up but not guarded? :smh:

4) Daryl is showing actual character development. The first character of the series.

5) Holy shite!!! A moat (of sorts)!

6) Please for the love of God let there be walker babies.

7) You can bet when the ZA hits, I want plenty of Skynerd in the soundtrack.

8) It was an odd transition to the Walker gladiator fight. The Governor works so hard to create an idyllic Woodbury and suddenly they go all Thunderdome.

9) I don't know any spoilers, and I'm in the camp that says the phone was ringing in Rick's imagination. Not the the production crew can't get it wrong, and I'm not basing my assertion on this, but dial phones literally don't work anymore. Gotta be digital.

8) totally agree although maybe they are just rying to show that the people are as effed up as the gov is?

also for those of you who don't like michonne i don't get it. granted i'm a comic reader, but going solely on the tv show if you had to draft people in the ZA i don't understand how she's not a 1st rd pick.
a badass but with enough compassion to take care of andrea. enough "no fricks to be given" to walk around with zombie pets, and enough smarts not to hang around in a place with the effed up governor.

edit: she's basically a female black version of daryl and everyone loves him.
