Probably because I was a kid, but a movie came out, I think in 1975 called Race with the Devil. I had nightmares for decades from that movie
My father loves that movie.
Ending is great, people think they are safe, and bam, surrounded, end of them and movie

I saw that and I liked it but I remember being disappointed towards the end.

man when I was a kid... THEY was the fricking scariest thing alive. I evacuated for a hurricane to my cousins in Georgia. We watched that movie and the baby cried, thunder roared, and lights shut down throughout the house. All in one sitting.
Same thing as in the movie.
frick THAT MOVIE

1408 That movie freaked me out big time. I don't know if I had a bad experience in a hotel at some point in my life or what but something about that movie struck a nerve with me. I have nightmares occasionally related to this movie.

Paranormal Activity fricked with me too.
Watched w a girl friend (not gf) who'd skied on the CU team, was a pilot, field news reporter, and who'd sailed around the world, and she was so scared that it freaked me the f out. I squealed like a stuck pig.

Exorcist and The Omen - Saw both when I was around 7 or 8.
For some reason the original Evil Dead fricked me up when I was around 11 or 12, but I watch it now and just laugh my arse off.

The Ring screwed me up for awhile.
Insidious scared me also, but by then I had sort of developed a sick fascination with supernatural horror thrillers.
Event Horizon never scared me, but I'm a little bit of a scifi horror junkie. My favorite episode of Dr. Who will always be The Waters of Mars.

Jacob's Ladder. I can't believe they're remaking it. There's one scene that never fails to give me chills, and I've seen it dozens of times.
The guy in the back seat of the car? That scene has haunted me for the last 30 years.

That was scary, but the line that goes with my scene is, “Anybody in there? ANYBODY HOME?!”

I think Mirrors is underrated.

I watched Event Horizon on HBO late at night in my bedroom when I was in junior high. That's the most scared I've ever been by a movie.

I second the ring
In theaters
You had to see it in theaters, was the best horror movie I've seen in theaters.

Pet Cemetery
At the time I had an aunt dying from cancer that looked a lot like Zelda. I still cannot watch the scenes with Zelda.
