To this day I go out of my way to make sure I am not alone in a bathroom with the door shut and lights off because of Candyman. It is seriously something that always crosses my mind when entering/leaving a restrooms. Scared the shite out of me when I was younger and it has always stuck.

Another one that really scared me shitless was Silence of the Lambs
This one is up there for me as well. Mainly because it was so real.
Monster movies never really scared me because deep down I knew it was all fake.
But Buffalo Bill could be a real serial killer and that’s whats really scary.

I can remember watching some of the 80’s classic horror movies in the theaters- Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Poltergeist- those type shows- when I was in high school/college. Scared the crud out of me. I distinctly remember one time a girl shot out of her theater seat and sprinted down the aisle and out the exit during one. But I just kept going to them!

The Changeling is an awesome movie.

Blair Witch Project scared the frick outta me when I was younger.
I went watch this in theaters at around 20 years old. I got out wanting a refund. I swear this is the dumbest movie I have ever seen and I will never attempt to watch that shite again.
The exorcist is still the scariest movie I have ever seen but I did watch it at 4 years old. Today I don't think they could make a movie that leaves me terrified. I'll jump when something happens on screen but once the credits roll I'm not thinking about what's in the dark.
I don't find there are many good horror movies made today.

I really liked Blair Witch Project and thought the marketing was brilliant.
I think I was around that age too when I saw it and I thought it was such a great new concept.
Thing is , I think horror falls into two basic categories - the human element - slasher/killer/psycho types and supernatural element - demons/ghost/other worldly and unexplainable.
The human element does absolute zero for me in terms of horror/scare factor.
The supernatural is more my jam for this genre. Something that cant fully be explained or rationed away with logic and defies the physical world that we know. That's frightening, not something that can be taken out by most human means already available.

Ghost Story when I was about 8-10 yrs old
My Dad took me to see this one in theaters when I was about 8. I remember spending a lot of time watching my feet instead of the screen. Another one that scared the shite out of me as a kid was The Manitou.

I saw "The Shining" when I was 16. That movie creeped me out for weeks afterwards. I still remember how I couldn't get the front door unlocked fast enough after I got home that night.
I still find that movie to be one of the most well-done horror movies ever. Kubrick was brilliant.

Wait until dark with Audrey Hepburn
That was a family favorite at my house growing up. I first saw it when I was very young and it scared me, especially during the penultimate scene in the movie. For what it is, I still think that is a great suspense movie. It's extremely well-acted and Alan Arkin is superb. I still watch it when I get a chance just for the great acting.

I remember seeing it at the theatre and being scared. The basic premise of it is quite chilling. What a horrible fate.

a movie came out, I think in 1975 called Race with the Devil. I had nightmares for decades from that movie
That scared me too as a kid. I think it may have been the first movie I ever saw that did NOT have a happy ending where the "heroes" make it. It left me feeling very shocked and depressed. Anything to do with Satanic worship/Hell to this day gives me chills, which is why I still can't watch The Exorcist again. Once was quite enough for me.

Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer
I think that is still the most disturbing movie I've ever watched. It's very well-done and acted, and you're right...that home invasion scene is absolutely horrifying.

1979 : Prophecy : still scared to watch that movie.
Although it does have some unintentionally funny scenes, like the old native American guy with the burning cigarette between his fingers (he's so frightened, he forgets it as it burns down).
