Been on a WWII kick this month, started with the World Wars docu on History Channel...and I just finished Band of Brothers and I loved it! I'm about to start The Pacific, and I am expecting a letdown because BoB was pure greatness....does The Pacific match up?

No it doesn't match up

I watched band of brothers recently. Finished them all.

Started Pacific right after. Only made it through 2 episodes

Eta: I have watched all of them before. Just couldn't rewatch it

They're very different....but Band of Brothers blows The Pacific away.

If you go into The Pacific expecting Band of Brothers, you'll be severely disappointed.

I agree. You become very familiar with all the characters and invested in the characters in Band of Brothers. You are put into boot camp on BoB and get to know all the characters before they go to war.

With Pacific, you are cast into the shite early and you have no idea and don't care who any of the characters are for half of the series. I really had to suck it up to finish Pacific and never cared for it much. I bought the BluRay combo set of BoB/Pacific and had intentions of watching all of them over the course of a weekend or two and just haven't sat down and done it.

Just finished The Pacific and really liked it. It is different from BoB. Pretty horrific what those guys in the Pacific Theatre went through.

I thought The Pacific was great. It had weaknesses, of course, and was a very different show than Band of Brothers. The wars were also very different wars from Europe to the Far East.

That being said:

forget about this.^

WWII in HD Color plays all the time on the Military Channel (now AHC) and is a great synopsis of the Second World War.

There is so much better stuff out there on WWI and WWII than that "World Wars" series. I hope people seek out the actually good stuff instead of the superficial.

Pacific is an Australian love story set in the early 1940's.

The Pacific is good for showing just how shitty it was in the Pacific theater. The later episodes with Sledge in Pelelui and Okinawa are brutal. You don't get the attachment to the crew like you do in BoB, but The Pacific is still good. The two middle non-combat episodes in Australia and the US take a lot of steam out of the series. The last one back home is pretty good.

BOB was based on one book which developed characters and made an easier transition to TV. The pacific is based on three different books, so you don't get as good of a transition like BoB.

Agreed.

It's not fair to even compare the two shows. The guys fighting in Europe had all the glory, they were fighting an enemy head on. The Pacific(show) showed exactly how shitty it was, there was no glory to be had down there, it was just a nasty war. The show was great IMO for the subject material. BoB was great and epic, it's really not fair to compare the two on equal ground.

Band of Brothers followed that one group around the whole series.
Pacific, due to the nature of the conflict didn't allow that type of series.
I liked both but BOB was better. The Pacific did a good job of showing the struggle of those that came back because that was a brutal campaign for those who fought in the Pacific.

Those dogging Pacific are full of shite it was a great series. As others have pointed out BoB follows 1 unit from start to finish so characters are built and you get invested in them. the Pacific is a different beast all together.
