This is why there are rules about conflict of interest.

One of the things about this episode that particularly rubbed me the wrong way was the very end of it. They set his bed on fire and are making throat slitting gestures? It was just a bit, no way too far out there for a show which has sort of built it's foundation on realism.

It was all a bit ridiculous along with the previously mentioned fascination with the eczema. I'll keep watching but it really needs to redeem itself this week by getting back to the actual case itself.

I don't think Freddie has anything to do with Andrea's murder. But I'd be willing to bet he wants something from Nas... and maybe later he'll use his connections to look into the investigation or ... maybe word will get to him who actually killed the girl.

There is also the possibility that Nas did murder Andrea and he doesn't remember. Maybe some of his memory will come back later, over the remainder of the series.

And maybe, Nas is a real messed up guy and what we're seeing is a front from him.

Yeah I also thought it was a little much. It's almost like the writers were thinking "ok everyone is going to be expecting him to get gang raped here, so let's throw a curveball and have his bed set on fire instead."

Regardless of the details surrounding it, I'm sure this will be the case.

It was a little dumb. I mean was there a guy or guys staying up all night waiting on him to go to the bathroom so they could do that?

Why is it dumb to use him...?

Typecast actor shows a lack of creativity.

Storyline was fresh, roles were fresh, and then they role out that dude. We've just seen him play that role 4x's over. It's stale

They've been updating the IMBD as they go along

I don't see what is so wrong with the character. It was obvious something like this would happen in prison with Naz. Is your issue just with who they chose?

I like him for the part. And he played a gangster in Boardwalk Empire, but completely different. Hell if you think he's a bad cast due to always playing the same role, you could say the same for Bodie.

Could be a Primal Fear style story for sure.

well his 2 biggest leading roles to date are Omar Little & Chakly White. I remember him in the Road, he played a similar character. Enforcer/intimidator. Pretty sure he was a drug dealer in the movie Snitch with the Rock.

I dont dislike him as an actor because he does actually have range. Lame that another HBO uses him in the same capacity as 2 other shows.

Last 2 episodes have not followed up E1 very well at all. Just meh. These next 2 better hit it out of the park or this series has lost me.

I have never been to prison but I have a hard time believing they have open beds in the floor like that.... Seems like too many problems.

The show doesn't seem know what kind of program it wants to be.

Exactly

Ep1 Murder Mystery = True Detective

EP2 Boring Police Procedural = NYPD Blue

Ep3 Prison Show = Oz

They had a great gritty E1. I would have at least thrown in some new flashbacks of the murder night during E2 & E3 to keep the grit alive.

I feel that if they keep straying further and further away from the aspects that hooked us all in episode 1, the interest in the show and viewership will wain.

Agreed. I don't mind character development and suspense building but there needs to be a little revealing of what actually happened at some point. It wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't till the very end though.

A lot of prisons do from what I have read. It's a way to deal with prison over crowding, which is an issue. It's hard to find sources for how prison cells are on google, otherwise I would provide a link.
