The Great Gatsby, worth the watch if you've read the book?

Hard to tell. I read the book so long ago.

If you like the story, it is worth a watch. Nothing spectacular or even memorable, but I wasn't wanting my time back when I was done.

As usual with Baz Luhrmann, it was a colorful pretty film to watch.

It's actually very close to the book. I think the only significant difference is the way he tells the story. In the book, it's like a journal. He's writing the story. In the movie, he is telling the story to a therapist if I remember correctly. But it doesn't affect the story at all. It's just a more visual way to do it than having him write on a piece of paper and narrate what he writes.

You may be disappointed with the soundtrack or you may love it. Either way, it is totally worth watching. I love the book and really enjoyed the movie. Both hold themselves well independently too.

I thought it followed closely for the most part. (Granted it's been about 6 years since I read it) Leo is Leo and has a really good performance. Edgerton was phenomenal. Carey Mulligan was meh as Daisy. Sometimes she was good, sometimes she was bad. Tobey McGuire was boring but I couldn't quite figure out if that was purposeful or not considering Nick isn't the most intriguing character anyway. Some ppl complained about the extravagance, over-the-topness that Luhrmann used but to me that falls in line with the book.

Yeah watching the book certainly helped me remember a few things from the book. It was one of my favorite books to read in high school. I think ppl either love it or hate it though.

i didn't read the book, but i thought the movie started out kind of slow and weird, but got a lot better and finished strong. Worth a watch for sure.

I think it's pretty good. Definitely follows the book. I loved the way the music was worked in, but I know it's not for everyone.

I liked it, other than that. I actually thought the modern rap music was pretty jarring and took me out of the story. But I'm probably a curmudgeon

This movie is awful. I'm expecting willy wonka to pop out any second and tell Nicky to quit being so lame. The music is okay in a vacuum but no way you should have modern dance music and rap in a 1920's movie for heavens sake. Rap for gawd's sake. Whoever made this ridiculous movie should be perma banned from tigerdroppings.

Beautiful production design. Didn't dig the looped-up modern soundtrack (usually accompanied by frantic editing).
