It has become entirely to predictable. No one was fooled when we saw the metal detector go over Martha's purse. No one thought Philip and Elizabeth weren't gonna get the guys.

but the drama of the show isn't based around these things

phillip and elizabeth are super mutants who will pretty much always do the job and get away. that's not where conflict comes from

martha's search was to establish HER internal conflict. it wouldn't have furthered the drama to have her get busted. the whole point is to avoid that predictable, cliched storyline and to establish a deeper drama: phillip and martha. we all knew that martha would get out of the FBI building just fine, but who knew for sure that phillip would have an apartment to bring martha to? be honest

the south african apartheid conflict was a US/USSR conflict b/c the US was supporting the apartheid regime and the USSR was supporting the insurgency. elisabeth had used this to start working a new mole (the college guy) and she was training him. he got exuberant and tailed some people without her knowing, and got lucky and actually found a lead on a student leader (this was the guy in the cafe) who was meeting with a bonafide south african intel guy (he was the guy on the street).

the russians sent the black guy, who was some figure from a communist-infused country in africa, as bait. now i will be perfectly honest and admit i have no clue how he would be used as bait, but he was bait to lure out the south african intel guy. the south african intel guy was supposed to kill the black leader and it would be blamed on the radicals

phillip and elizabeth were scoping out teh diner b/c that was the trap. phillip saw the car circle once before it parked and he knew that was the south african intel guy. the bread van was backup/support for the op. they're likely going to torture the student radical and intel guy and they'll reveal much more detail about everything

Correct.

And to the guy who said this show has bad writing, dude, just

The internal conflict in all of these characters is making some incredibly intense/awkward scenes. Great scene this week between Stan and his son

Agree.
That stressed relationship, and the son hearing things about his dad's undercover work, and maybe...just maybe his dad went through a lot of heavy shite, and isn't such a bad guy afterall...all that played on the son's face in that scene and the dialogue.

to be clear, the chick who was with the bread van and took one to the forehead from elizabeth was working with the south africans, right?

That's what I took it as but she could just be collateral damage from the op as well

She definitely spoke with an accent.

I think she was the SA intel agent's backup.

My understanding was the girl on the bread truck was collateral damage. She was just in the wrong place at the wrong time

If unconnected, she still would have been an eyewitness to the driver of the van, as well as the type of van and possibly a license plate. However, some have said she looks like the female student that was earlier in the episode.

I took it thew other way, she was there in support of the guy that they captured.

Maybe I'm wrong, but that's how I took it.
