But since they pointed out that they're in an alternative universe, I don't see how communication would be possible.

Right. Like I said, hopefully we'll get an explanation as to how communication is possible (we are assuming it has to be in order for the future to know it's a safe journey through the hole, right?), but I don't know if we will. Even just a throw-away line about it would be fine for me. I just don't want to see them communicating back and forth with no attempt at explaining it.

Also, I thought I saw kids there, but maybe I am misremembering.

And the pilot was absolutely, 100% NOT hippie-ish or carrying some sort of political "green" message IMO. Not even close.

ETA: and it's nothing like Lost.

They didn't choose the time period. They said during the show that they found a rip in the space-time fabric that sent them to that point in time.

This. That is their only time-travel option.

Did anybody think it seemed exactly like Lost but with dinosaurs?

Yeah. They are using a lot of the same formula. I don't blame them, it makes for intriguing television.

1) A group of people isolated in the wild with limited communication and resources.

2) A hostile environment with "monsters"

3) An opposing group with unknown motives (I personally thought they brought this out too early. I would have saved the introduction of the parallel group for midway through the first season.)

4) A plot that has undertones of time travel/alternative universes

5) A mysterious third party that apparently plays some vital role but which we know nothing about.

It just reminded me of "V" when they ran through a season's worth of material during the pilot.

LOST had a great build up and overall pacing.

Ouch!

The dialog was horrendous. I know they needed to get a lot done to set everything up but most of the dialog was cringe worthy. Maybe 8 out of 10 on the Lucasian Dialog Scale.

I hated the evillllllllllll cops looking for the baby smashing up the apartment. Why were they even in the cheap arse apartment?

Evil Avatar Guy said the doctor chick could have lived anywhere, even a dome so why were they in that dump?

I hate every single teenager. I would love for them to all be swallowed whole by a giant fish, next time they take a swim.

They spent 20 million on the pilot and yet it has some 80s style effects in some scenes. The landscape shot from the mountain comes to mind. They would have been better off not even having that pointless shot.

I get so sick and tired of seeing gunfire have zero effect on the dinosaurs! Excuse me??? We have bullets now that will tear up metal but in the future they don't have bullets that can penetrate the hide of a dinosaur.

Panicking Stupid Girl that was eaten pissed me off. They should have had her panic BEFORE they had radio contact with the Evil Avatar Guy.

Err.....how is mankind saved by going 65 million years in the past? Since this is a parallel universe, it does nothing to save Earth 1 unless the plan is to develop Earth II and then send everyone from Earth 1 to Earth II where it can be overpopulated with the same problems as Earth 1.

They need to phase out the dopey kids but I imagine they won't. I hated every second with that punk arse whiny bitch of a son.

How stupid are those kids? They are at the bottom of the food chain for almost every bug or dinosaur. No freaking way I would leave that damn perimeter without massive armament. Yes, I know kids are stupid and these kids are well above the stupidity curve.

How is that crappy arse fence with GIGANTIC gaps keeping anything out?

If a tall teenage boy can get through the gaps then or good friend the velociraptor would have no problem getting in and eating everyone. Not to mention everyone walking about even though Winged Predators are flying all over the place.

I will continue to watch because this one will be a fantastic outlet for my nitpicking. Hell, this mess will be far more fun to nitpick than SGU.

The others totally blow. No I will NEVER call them the 6ers. They will be the others.

I could go on but I am already going to get a 98% TLDR rate.

One more thing. Their guns can't do crap but the dinosaurs can chew through metal cars. Oh, ok.

Right. There is a huge disconnection there.

This made no sense to me too. Why would you turn over a coffee table when looking for a person?

They should have come up with a better backstory of how and why the family ended up on Terra Nova

The son is going to ba major problem for me if he stays as punk bitch. Not sure why they went with that angle.. Wasn't needed to explain his rebellion.

The communication hole needs to be answered and answered smoothly..

Overall, I enjoy this type of genre and will keep watching baring some stupid shite with the son..

Pretty clear they want to make the kids an integral part of the show so be prepared for plenty of annoying teen angst.

The son reminded me of Tom Cruise's son on the remake of the "War of the Worlds".

Good point. I know the object is to go back and try to move forward without making the same mistakes we made the first time around. But, if this is a "different" earth then we are not really saving "our" earth.

I think the 3rd child thing nixed that idea.

Any one else get the feeling that the "others/6ers" are going to turn out to be the good guys (rebels) and the group headed by the avatar guy will turn out to be more like an "evil empire" like operation?

And of course avatar guy's son will show up at some point, probably as one of the 6ers.

If you like Sci-Fi/Fantasy then you don't have many options on tv so yes it is worth a try BUT.... This has a large cast with giant sets and I don't see it making it beyond 1 season unless it has stellar ratings which I don't think it will have.
