im curious to learn how they are communicating with the Hope Station, or whatever it was called.

He said he knew that they wanted to send 100 people next time, which could easily be info brought by the settlers, but they also talked about asking them who sent the Sixers.. so there is obviously some comm back to the future..

That was weird, because they made a point to mention that the portal was one-way only. Also made a point to say that when they sent to probe back in time that they couldn't find it because it had gone to an alternate reality. So then how do they know it did, or where it went, and all that..? And why would they start sending people through the portal without knowing important shite?

All questions that I have, but that I feel like will not be answered. I'm okay with that, but it'd be nice.

Exactly. Unless there is a two way line of communication the future has no idea if people are actually arriving in the past. They have no idea what type of specific personnel and equipment are required.

They knew about the ex-cop's situation as soon as he arrived. There wasn't time for a messenger to relay the information.

Maybe its like Stargate in that radio transmissions can go both ways.

I enjoyed it. Every now and then I need some good mindless entertainment. Why did they have to go back to the time of the dinosaurs? Because dinosaurs kick arse, that's why. All I really want from this show going forward is some sort of storyline, like it so far, and some great back and forth dinosaur fights. I'm hoping they can get a dinosaur to swallow a bunch of grenades, and then it explodes and General Avatar says, "Meteors don't cause extinction... I do!!!" I could get behind it 100% in that case.

Reaching. It's 138 years in the future. Every angle they could have taken as to why they had to go back would have a message. If it was nuclear war, it would be an anti-war message. Watching it, they really didn't have any save the rainforest/should have treated the grass better in our timeline type of moments.

If it weren't for the son, I'd probably have been interested but not overly impressed by the pilot. Like I said it has a lot of room for improvement, which is what I want to see. I just think the son being a little bitch is just unnecessary drama and filler that doesn't hold up well. For that reason I just didn't respect the writers in their other plotlines of the show, no matter how promising they could be. I need to trust that the writers are going to give me something original and worthwhile, not a promising plot that will eventually lead to disappointment because they feel the need to pander to an audience that just has to have drama.

We'll see how the show changes from pilot to regular episodes. Sometimes things are put into pilots which are abandoned later once feedback on the show starts coming in from producers, executives, et al.

While war maybe necessary sometimes, its always bad. Air Quality OTOH, has been improving, no reason to think it will be "worse" in the future, unless you are some kind of green nut.

If its back story and not something they beat you over the head with, that's good. I meant my first comment as somewhat of a joke, since I don't watch TV shows on a regular basis, I wasn't going to watch this anyway. And its not that I'm against TV shows, I just usally forget/have something else to do, so I don't ever remember when something is on. I did see Falling Skies this summer and liked it, before the finale, they did a marathon, so I recorded and watched every episode. Of course now I'm pissed off that I have to wait until next summer to see what happens SPOILER!!!!!!

Youre talking about the first 5-10 mins in a 2 hour premiere.

The show begins in the year 2149. In an effort to save the human race, scientists develop a time machine allowing people to travel 85 million years back in time to the middle of the Cretaceous period of prehistoric Earth. However, they are unaware that the colony is in the middle of a group of carnivorous dinosaurs.
I guess the producers of the show didn't do their homework. (So what else is new)

I'm sure scientists in the year 2149 would have done a little advanced research as well and would have been aware that Dinos were still alive and thriving in the middle Cretaceous at 85 million years ago. The mass extinction event didn't happen until the end of the Cretaceous at about 65 mya.

Why would you send people back in time to a period when T-Rex's and Raptors were known to have lived? (Well maybe so you could make a Jurassic Park inspired rip-off TV show)

I'm going to try and be optimistic about it and see what they do. I don't watch much else on monday night unless an MNF game really intrigues me, so I really have no excuse not to give it a second chance and see what changes are made

Just an observation but other than the smuggled in 5yr old i didn't see any kids running around. If their goal is to give humanity a fresh start they better start doing some humping; especially with dinos chomping on people constantly

This was a huge gap in logic that I noticed.

If it were the same universe, then they could easily communicate with Hope Station by writing a message down in a certain geographic location on Terra Nova that could then be retrieved by people in the future at Hope Station. This was the way people communicated in the Michael Crichton book "Timeline." While technically the message would sit idle for 85 million years, it would be almost instant communication between Hope Station and Terra Nova. Hope Station could send the response with next pilgrimage to come through.

But since they pointed out that they're in an alternative universe, I don't see how communication would be possible.

It was an okay pilot. I'll keep watching because I like Sci-Fi and most everything else on TV is utter crap.

They didn't choose the time period. They said during the show that they found a rip in the space-time fabric that sent them to that point in time.

Did anybody think it seemed exactly like Lost but with dinosaurs?
