Have you been surprised by your emotional reaction to the trailers and stuff?

I'm not an emotional guy at all and this stuff just busts me up.

I didn't have this reaction at all for the prequels. Granted, I was a lot younger and was excited until I saw how horrible they were, but it wasn't like this.

One of my earliest memories was when I was 5. I know I was 5 because it was in my parent's starter home in 1977. We left there that year.

I remember creeping down the hall hoping Santa Claus had been there and peeking around the corner praying to God Almighty the full sized Millinium Falcon was there. It was. It was there in the light of the Christmas tree.

Anyone else in the age range that truly understands the feels dealing with this?

Share.

I actually kind of dread the new movie.

I'm too afraid that:

1) It will suck

or

2) They're gonna kill off my heroes.

The last trilogy burned me badly enough that my enthusiasm is really muted. I hope they do a better job with the story, dialogue, and directing than the last efforts but even a good effort will be less about making a good movie than pedaling billions more in merchandising.

And yes, all of this was true for Return of the Jedi in retrospect. I was just too young to be as put off back then.

I was born in '90. So I watched the original batch on VHS. Enjoyed it, have watched it a bunch. I appreciated the updated effects from the other batch. So I'll say that.

With that said. The 2015 effects look fricking fantastic. The Millennium Falcon chase scenes with music from the originals was fantastic and really got me interested in checking this movie out for the first itme.

1. They waited too long. They are all elderly now and Harrison Ford is the only one to have done anything. Very broad use of the word "anything".

2. The prequels sucked. Jar-Jar. :

3. The advance of CGI and technology made the prequels look foolish. Mainly in the respect of Jedi ability. Yoda vs. Emperor fight scene makes Luke vs. Vader look silly.

But yes. I get what the OP is saying. 1973 model here. So Christmas bliss for me was the year I got the Mellinium Falcon and later the Death Star.

For that particular fight yes. But we went from Vader and Obi Wan locked in the slowest hand to hand combat in the history of film to the Obi Wan / Qui-Gon Jinn vs Maul fight which I always loved.

Darth Maul was the only cool part of the prequels. And the double ended staff light saber.

The trailer with Han and Chewie, I got a little choked up.

prequels

I still don't know what people are referring to with this prequel stuff. I keep hearing about these prequels.

quote:

full sized Millinium Falcon

I got that as a toy and it was the best star wars present I ever had. 79 or 80.

I've watched the new trailer a few times and I get goosebumps every time. It just brings me back to when I was young and seeing them for the first time on vhs

Mark Hamill is largely thought of as one of the best voice actors of all time. He's pretty damn accomplished.

When you boil it down, the problems that Jar Jar causes are pretty ignorable compared to the other frick-ups, like Anakin and Obi Wan's relationship, the fact that Episode I is entirely pointless in the grand scheme, and we were given debatably the worst love story of all time.

It's all far too choreographed. All the duels are silly in the prequels, and yes that includes the Darth Maul fight. What kind of a palace would have that kind of structure inside of it? It makes no sense to have a railless power chamber with bottomless pits and just happen to have laser doors that seem to lead to nowhere.

Plus the Emperor and Yoda using lightsabers.... Couldn't it have been as simple in the originals that Vader used a lightsaber because he was a fallen Jedi? Yes make the Sith Apprentice (and make it Maul throughout the prequel trilogy) to use a lightsaber, but I would think the Emperor and Yoda should be powerful enough in the Force that they could use the Force solely to instantly shatter any opponent they face. There's a reason Yoda does not teach Luke anything to do with lightsaber dueling. There's a reason that the Emperor allows Luke to take his lightsaber, and it's because if Vader doesn't defend him, then he'll kill both of them instantly on the spot before Luke's lightsaber can even hit the Emperor. That's always the impression I got from that scene at least.

Uh no. Abrams and Lucas are dead to me. I have no reaction to this - whatsoever. I was a Star Trek fan first, and a Star Wars fan second. The first 3 Star Wars films were from a different time and place.

I literally cannot muster enough energy to give 2 shits about whatever Abrams is going to do with it - despite the fact that Lucas has ALREADY fricked up Star Wars beyond all recognition.

I was 8 when star wars came out. I've been a major Star Wars dork ever since. I'm stoked about E7 but concerned about rumors of major characters death(s) and/or Luke turning. I may throw up or cry......not really.

If you are expecting these movies to equal and surpass the feeling we all got watching the originals when we were 6 yo you will be dissapointed.

im sure they will be monumentally better than the prequel vomit show and I will appreciate the nestalgia but Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker have become virtual archetypes of good and evil. The original story has transcended it own medium. There may never be a repeat of what the original trilogy has become.

No movie will ever blow people away the way Star Wars did in 1977. In that regard, it's one of the greatest films of all time.

I'm just hoping that it's a good movie, but I'd almost rather them suck as bad as the prequels that have a bunch of preachy SJW nonsense in them. Coming from a director who hosts Barack Obama fundraisers in his home, I'm kind of expecting the latter.

The Star Trek movies were "edgy" and action-driven, like Star Trek for coke-heads, complete with tired formulas such as time travel. I'm not expecting a lot out of this one. Disney bought a corporate property intending to squeeze as much life out of it as they can, and that usually means that any actual creativity takes a back seat.

I'll be there on opening day. If it is what I fear it may be, this will be the last time the franchise gets my money.

75 model here. I too got a Falcon one Christmas morning and it was awesome. Almost topped by getting the giant at-at later for my birthday.

Got pissed when someone gave me a sweet arse boba get slave 1 because that bastard helped jabba encase Solo in carbonite.

As a kid, I was a Star Wars junkie. Thought E6 was great minus the ewoks. Was getting all formative at that time so I was intrigued with what Luke was dealing with. My uncle put it best regarding ewoks: they look like Chewie took a fluffy shite.

E1-3 can't lick my sac. Tried watching it through the eyes of a kid and with my kids later on. No sense of wonderment. No AHA moments because those 3 films could have easily been just two. Don't get me started about Jar Jar. That fricker should've gotten a saber up the corn hole.

In terms of E7, something about the style has me geeked. Yes I lost my shite when I saw the falcon and then solo and chewie. But it was more than that. The previews seem to show that Abrams has captured the vastness and the spectacle of the Star Wars universe. He seems to get that this film needs to operate on a macro level while still resonating. How do you top a star destroyer cruising in space, show it wrecked on tatooine (my opinion). How do you top the introduction of the most bad arse weapon in the universe, have that fricker light up at the hilt. (We all talked about it because it was exciting). Like x-wings, wait until you see them rooster tail over a lake. Then just when you get swept up by the scope...bam...motherfricking Vader's skull. That preview just narrow focused you down from a whole galaxy to one single iconic character. The one character that growing up you resented, respected and then cheered. The one dude who had the universe swinging from his nuts.

I am excited. Hoping to still be in mid December.

It hits home way more so than the prequels did when I first saw those trailers. I think JJ being part of this same generation, having grown up with these movies as a fan...I really think he's got it down.

My sister gave me the X-Wing Fighter...still one of my favorite toys I ever got.

Ive always loved the original Star Wars movies, even though I don't consider them great movies any more. The nostalgia I'm feeling towards the new one is really pretty exciting...and I'm excited for my boys (8 and 13) to hopefully get to experience this world in a similar way I did when I was near their ages.

That being said...I saw a commercial for Cover Girl makeup with fricking Star Wars tagging. Enough already...

It was my 8th? birthday. My father came in to my room to wake me up. He told me to look under my bed. There was a wrapped box. I started to open it. He said you can't be a Jedi without a lightsaber. And there it was, one of the 1st toy lightsabers they ever made. I freaked out. That day he dressed up as Darth Vader using church vestments and a badass full-head helmet. fricker looked just like him. We had a Star Wars party and he met each of my friends at the door and asked them "Friend or foe". What a geek. Some idiot broke my lightsaber during the party. Bummer

So I get word last week that the old man has 2-4 months. He's been battling cancer. I'm gonna make sure he makes it to see that with me. So, yeah, all the feels. This is the first time I've gotten emotional about it all. I'm afraid I might lose it at that movie if somebody gets killed off.

Yes. I am 45 and loved Star Wars growing up. My parents could only afford to get me a few action figures. The main characters.

I wanted the Falcon and X-Wing , etc. but we just could not afford them.

When my current 9 year old turned 5 I started living vicariously through him. He has the Queens Royal Starship, AT-AT Walker, the latest MF from Toys R Us, etc.. To much to list. His room is a SWs fans fantasy land.

I am a sentimental person and the trailers give me a lump in my throat as well.

Really? You knock the prequels for illogical architecture doesn't apply to the originals? The either Star Wars universe has terribly bad idea designs.
