People will bitch about anything. Smh.
I'm pumped.
I'm pumped.

Looks good. Abrams seems to be calling back to the originals in some of those shots that's a good sign.

Explain to me how a normal lightsaber works? You can't, because it's not real. None of it is real. It's frickING STAR WARS.

quote:Agreed. There's no way someone would design a lightsaber like that, even in the Star Wars universe.
because it's not real.

Its sad that you thought that was a clever excuse for having a light saber hilt that sticks out too far and would not actually protect your arms and ultimately is more of a risk to self injury. That's not STAR WARS... that's just plain dumb. And you sound like a bigger idiot for trying to use that as an excuse.

He pretty much ruined Star Trek forever with his time travel bullshite. If there's time travel in this, I will lead the nerd revolt.
You actually have not one clue about what you are talking about. Time travel is as much a star trek story device as the fricking phaser is.

Well, I guess I know which toy I won't be getting you for Christmas 2015.

When I was a kid the cardboard rolls that held the Christmas wrapping paper worked just fine...for about 15 minutes. Maybe you could reinforce it with duct tape and then tie 2 sparklers pointing outwards at the hilt and light them.

You can actually suck my cock. It's used in previous Star Trek story lines, but not in the way it is used in those two movies. And really, the time travel episode and movie weren't that great. Save the whales? Yeah, whatever.
I'm sure JJ thought he was being clever by allowing himself to regurgitate slightly altered versions of the old stories in a clusterfrick of randomness. He wasn't, and the end result was horrible. But that's what he knows. Formulas and cgi sensory overloads. Even so, it might be a decent movie, but I never expected greatness from this guy.

Really, the best part of the lightsaber design, which y'all seem to be missing, is that it looks unstable as all hell. It's not the crisp, clean ray of light it usually is in the other moving, it looks more like arcing electricity. Which speaks to an evil character who does not have formal training and is probably on the fringes of society, not backed by the empire.
I think the ghetto saber is sort of the point. It's telling us something about the character, as that it is one jacked up lightsaber even without the hilt.
I love the more lived in design, going back to the original series. The prequels were too clean. The Star Wars universe was clunky and dirty. It felt lived in.
And I had a nerdgasm upon seeing the Falcon. Couldn't help it. God help me, I'm back in.

Or Abrams is just going for a "realistic/gritty" lightsaber

I could go with that but could the lightsaber also be arcing because it's making contact with and melting the snow?
I like the concept of a novice Sith not knowing how to make a lightsaber but Luke built one with just a year or two of on and off training so if this guy is having trouble making one, he's in for a monster arse kicking once he runs into Luke.
But maybe based on some of the rumors, that's going to be the end result: this dude causes havoc all throughout the movie until Luke takes him to (get your arse kicked) school near the end of the movie.
