Is the animated series worth watching as a Star Wars fan?

When does it take place in the order of films?

Which episode or season was talked about on here as one of the best and could’ve been a movie? I remember seeing something similar discussed.

Yes, especially the last few seasons.

Between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith

The last four episodes of season 7, which are the last four episodes of the series.

Personally I think it's a great show, but then again I am biased.

Broski's answers above are correct. The last 4 episodes of Season 7 are known as the Siege of Mandalore and take place concurrent with the events of Revenge of the Sith. There is even a supercut of RotS somewhere with those last 4 episodes edited into it so you see all the events as they were happening.

If you are a fan of The Mandalorian, TCW will introduce you to Bo-Katan, the Darksaber and of course Ahsoka Tano.

Some feel that TCW takes a couple of season to find its legs. By mid Season 3 it really starts firing on all cylinders and by the end of Season 5, well, it goes to another level. Then S7 even tops that.

You should know, however, that the episodes, especially in the first few seasons, are not in chronological order. Here is the official order from Lucasfilm if you want to watch the show in chronological order instead of release order.

I watched them in the order some guy on Reddit suggested and I felt it was a lot better than if I would have seen them in the order they aired.

This is true. There are a lot of filler/throwaway episodes early on. Later on the story gets more focused with less filler episodes.

I will say it definitely feels like a kid's show early on with almost every episode being a fully contained "filler" but the show does so much to bring character to Anakin that the prequels completely fricked up.

Yes, yes and yes!! The final 4 episodes of season 7 IMO can be argued as the greatest Star Wars content ever.

I watched it last year, it is worth a watch. I also watch Star Wars Rebels, and while I enjoyed it, it was not on the same level as TCW.

Probably a smart way.

OP, it is a commitment. Enjoy it though

starwars.com also has a viewing order listed as well. It puts them in chronological order of events rather than order of airing.

I really liked Clone Wars and Rebels. And with more Filoni fronted live action shows on the schedule, it can help give some back story to some of the things that are likely to be referenced.

Since the other questions have already been answered, I’ll answer the opinion one

quote:

Absolutely. It does a great job of further revealing the Star Wars universe. It also improves on a lot of characters like the Clones, Anakin, Maul, and many more. You get to see a lot more of the “war” aspect. Plenty of large scale battle scenes and lightsaber and other duels.

Some of the early episodes in the early seasons aren’t great but you can skip them if you want to. Since a lot of those episodes are self contained, you don’t have to watch every episode. But the last season was some of the best content ever put out about Star Wars. They really stepped up the CGI.

Also, important note, there is a Clone Wars movie that came out before the Clone Wars series. That is where we are introduced to Ahsoka.

yes it does.
Some of the filler episodes are on planets rather unknown, and i didn't really care to watch those episodes. But having 2-3 episodes about the war affecting the planet that Admiral Ackbar is from was cool to see. It's filler episodes, but it's at least filler and gives some insight on a character you know.
There was a lot of interaction with Mandalore so that was cool to see.
Learning about the planet Darth Maul was from and the Sisters was good stuff.
Got to see Yoda learn about how to communicate with Qui-gan.

I'm sure someone could put out a guide that goes over which episodes are kind of worthless and which ones you should watch.
I just finished all 7 seasons. The main takeaway i got from this series is that Anakin constantly grew to distrust the Jedi council, and simply didn't agree with who they were anymore.
Him going to the "force" planet or whatever it was called to see the Father/Son/Daughter was foretelling and great episodes.

it also irritated me after i finished this thinking about how much better the prequels could have been had they incorporated a bit more from this series into the movies.
Kid Anakin for a whole movie was just dumb. More time should have been spent on Jedi and Master Anakin, and Ahsoko absolutely should have been in the movies. The movies did a terrible job of relaying the message of how much Anakin distrusted the Jedi Council, which had way more to do with his transformation to the dark side than saving Padme from death did.

And How the handling of Ashoka pushed him even further without going into too many spoilers. She plays a big part of his decisions and his feelings on the council.

This is why, as I beat my dead horse, Filoni and Favreau should just be given the reigns to the universe and and allow them to undue and erase the last 3 movies.

It is excellent content, but do note, the movie that starts it off as well as the first season and a half or so can be a real slog for newcomers to the series. That period was certainly more aimed at children as the target audience and has much less depth and nuance than the rest of it. Its still quite enjoyable though after getting through it the first watch through.

Personally, I really enjoy the format of the show. It consists almost entirely of multi-episode story arcs, wherein there will be a series of episodes, usually 3, but sometimes more or sometimes less, that follow a prominent character(s) to the conclusion of that arc. Almost like a series of episodes that could be smashed together into a mini-movie.

Among its other qualities, it does a fantastic job of painting Anakin's fall to the dark side and actually giving it the explanation that Revenge of the Sith severely lacked.

It sort of bills itself as a Republic war-effort propaganda piece that I think is really interesting

exactly.

This is what i wish someone could go put together and give a quick synopsis on so you know which ones are mostly just a filler, which ones are a bit more important but still not that critical, and then which ones are extremely critical.
