This. I don’t understand this thread sometimes. Half the shite people seem to complain about is old school Star Trek.

Also, loved what I assumed was an Alien franchise reference with the way the Gorn’s curved tail came down from the roof.

Love
This
Scotty.

Much better than Pegg.

Fantastic episode. Tons of drama, considering we know who has to survive.

Spoiler:

Thinking about who isn’t currently on the Enterprise, they have obvious replacements.

I don't know how reliable this site is but according to them due to the strike it may be 2025 before we see season 3.

It also suggests Nurse Chapel's storyline with Dr Korby is going to be a significant part of the season so she's not leaving the series, which is good. She's not hard to look at at all

I was ready to be done with this show, but DAMN THEM! Well placed cliffhanger.

Finally! Love The Gorn. They are the right kind of creepy and mysterious.

Agree with all of the Alien homage. It’s well done. The right balance of similarity without being a total ripoff.

They’re getting the series “big baddie” so right. I just think they haven’t quite found the right tone for the rest of the show.

Still— why isn’t M’benga in the brig? This episode presented the perfect scenario to have a need to get him out to treat Pike’s side chick.

Great episode, even though I don’t like the cliffhanger because of the Hollywood strikes going on and who knows when we’ll get anything else. I watched reruns from time to time at my grandparents because they had cable, which was long ago. I loved Star Trek Enterprise and that’s what got me back into the franchise but that was long before the streaming options we have now. We’re the Gorn apart of the earlier series?

As far as I can concretely recall, the Gorn significantly appear in TOS and Enterprise. There may have been a casual mention in DS9. I don't know about Lower Decks though - there are obviously some scenes with Gorn, but I don't know how big a part they play in any of the story lines.

The Gorn were prominent in TOS. Who could forget this classic battle?

YOUTUBE

Honestly it's messes with my mind seeing how SNW portrays the gorn compared to what we remember in TOS. Is this iteration what they originally intended the gorn to be?

Honestly frick the writers. Just load all of the existing SNW scripts as well as the TOS scripts into an AI and tell it to produce a script following 'x' plot outline, and account for continuity. Pay a group of 5 superfans with different ideas of where the show should go to collaborate to proof read it and send it to production.

Technology is coming and trying to force humanity to be ludites is the wrong answer to the (legitimate) problem.

The Gorn were in the Enterprise episode “In a Mirror, Darkly - part 2”, which is the mirror universe episode(s). It is 3rd from the last of season 4 I believe.

I hear you, and agree with you but those Hollywood unions have more power than we do, because of that we just have to wait. Unless enough people buck the system, but I don’t see that happening.

Yeah… gotta disagree. Leaving this season with a cliffhanger is NOTHING compared to the angst generated by SNG’s “Best of Both Worlds” cliffhanger… the greatest TV cliffhanger outside of “Who Shot JR?” It shouldn’t surprise anyone that a show like SNW would emulate SNG with a season-ending cliffhanger while the show is gaining momentum. These are the things that build fan bases, not alienate them. There’s nothing like a good cliffhanger. Embrace the hurt!

Without looking it up, my understanding of the history of the term “cliffhanger”’came from serials shown in the movie theater that literally ended with the hero hanging from a cliff…as a gimmick to get you to come back and see the next week’s movie to find out if he lived or died.

I guess there is some disagreement as to what constitutes classic Star Trek. I am
sure many on here grew up watching The Next Generation, and view it in high regard. Star Trek only had one “To be continued” episode.

Dallas, a night time soap opera, came on at a time when you had 26 episodes a year. It also came on during a time when you had three networks putting out programming. You knew that in 3-4 months time you’d get a conclusion. It was one of if not the most popular TV shows in the country. Who shot Jr? became a national sensation. I’m also pretty sure that CBS made a pretty penny from its advertisers for the reveal. Finally, it should be noted too that the same geniuses who brought you “who
Shot Jr” later had Patrick Duffy taking a year long shower.

I’m sorry, but the Strange New Worlds cliffhanger does NOTHING to draw fans to the series or get people talking. It’s an inconvenience and a nuisance that, here’s this episode I invested an hour of my time into, and now I have to wait 2 years to find out what happens. This is also done knowing that 1- M’Benga can’t die, 2- it doesn’t really matter long term if Batel dies 3- Kirks gonna take diamonds, sulfur and bamboo and beat the gorn

That’s not to say that they couldn’t have left anything open at the end, but the fact that they left everything opened sucked.

I agree he’s better than Pegg.

Scotty was born in 2222, meaning he is 38 at the time of Strange New Worlds. I think I read this actor is only 29, which is fine as long as they stay true to the character as being more of an experienced, grizzled miracle worker with a whimsical side rather than a “whiz kid”.

They didn't know it would be a 2 year cliffhanger. There was an 11 month gap between Season 1 and Season 2. You can't blame the writers strike on them.

I guess I meant get people talking in a positive way. Course, they say all publicity is good, right.

I do want to clarify that, aside from the decision to end the episode with a Season ending cliffhanger I thought the episode was great and enjoyed it.

I liked the musical episode. Credit for the creativity.

Curious if any of the cast had voiceovers singing for them.

Finally was able to binge watched it. I didn't want to be on the hook every episode so I waited.

Ep 1: Set the tone just right, I was fine with it.

Ep 2: Was poignant but conflicts with the Dr Bashi episode in DS9 as they could have pointed to Una as precedent as letting an augment into starfleet.

Ep3: Still don't like the kirk, he looks too much like a doofus instead of the hero you know he would be in the future. He doesn't have that commanding presence.

Ep4: Was pretty good as a person episode.

Ep5: This whole T'Pringle situation is dragging on, we all know what will happened. There no real tension there, though Spock and Nurse chapel hooking up was surprising.

Ep6: Uhura shines here, she growing to become a favorite.

Ep7: By far my favorite episode. That part at the end cracks me up. Mariner doesn't look bad in real life, Boimler looks ...harsh. I wanted to see IRL Tendi damn it!

Ep 8: M'Benga is da man! He finished the job and Chapel covered for him. Can't blame him at all. His empathetic nature is also very endearing. Once again, I am very happy to see the Federation and by extension, Starfleet showing their martial side. That was what was missing for me in the TOS/TNG series.

Ep9: A joke episode obviously, but not bad. The Klingon parts had me dead though!

Ep10: Its a cliffhanger but if you watched the TOS you know it ended just fine. Though, I wonder if they would actually have a brief war with the Gorn. Canon Trek said not, but canon trek never mention any Klingon War that pushed the federation shite in either.

Guess we find out next season! Over all great!
