I liked that opening sequence though when he was walking to the hotel and all

My favorite part of the film was the Mexico part. Unfortunately it was at the beginning and Christoph waltz was criminally underutilized. It was still a good film though, on par with casino royale.

I enjoyed it too but I think CR was a much better film

Spectre > Skyfall

That's encouraging, but it's really not saying much.

Is Skyfall extremely polarizing or something?

Yeah I didn't realize how many people disliked it until later on this particular board. Most people seemed to love Skyfall, but the Dark Knight comparisons are apt.

I think it's right behind Casino Royale in terms of Quality. Spectre being an equal to Skyfall imo.

Nah. Spectre had some great individual scenes, but it's just not cohesive enough for me. It felt like an endless sequence of captures, escapes, and explosions. There are nods to classic Bond films that go nowhere too. Lots of cliches, like the "save yourself or die trying to save the girl" in a building that explodes in 3 minutes. Then, he shoots down a helicopter from a moving boat.

It just felt a little too much like Die Hard instead of the more nuanced Bond films with Craig. Still enjoyed it though. It just falls apart on analysis.

I think I liked Skyfall more.

However, this movie was fine. The Mexico scene was good. If Day of the Dead is really like that, I'd like to go sometime. The way this movie brought the previous 3 movies together worked for me.

Ralph Fiennes is a good M.

I think Bond fans know how the next movie is probably going to begin though...

Yeah it was great until the helicopter. That just got silly to me, and not the good silly.

I enjoyed Spectre.

It's now back to the old school feel of the Bond movies.

I do think though as mentioned before that Waltz was underutilized.

I had my hopes up going into this film because the leaked script I read was the "perfect" Bond movie. But so much was eliminated and so much was rewritten that shouldn't have been.
What did they cut out?

Yeah both are solid bond films. And that is perfectly fine considering some of the garbage bond movies that are out there.

Casino royale is on a total higher level though. Spectre should make us appreciate that film even more.

SPOILERS

This is how I feel too. The end scene is just completely out of touch with reality. Of course he finds the girl and there is a large net on the first floor to escape. Just way too far fetched for me

I don't appreciate Blofeld and SPECTRE being the result of daddy issues, I think it's cheap.

Yes - I didn't say this in my thread because I didn't want to "ruin" the twist for anybody, but this completely destroyed the movie for me. Blofeld is supposed to be completely amoral and bloodless, not some wimp who's mad because his dad took James skiing instead of him. It's also the lamest and most hackneyed way to explain a villain's motivation (by contrast, Skyfall handled this very well).

The "oh by the way all these other movies were also me" bit also felt forced. You have to plan something like that out from the beginning, so there is some common theme among the prior films that makes the audience say, wow, that's right, it was Blofeld all along! But they didn't do that, so it just felt tacked on.

I'm really surprised at this too. I loved Skyfall, but I've never seen the new Batman movies so I had nothing to compare it to.

Saw this yesterday and actually enjoyed it. I had low expectations based on the reviews but I found it entertaining. Skyfall bored me.

I still can't find a reasonable explanation as to why that net was there or how he knew it was there.

I'm not sure why it was there. But he knew it was there because he stopped and looked up when walking in, we never saw what he saw.

Actually, it could have been there as a safety net for workers since that hole went up so many floors.

I enjoyed it, I agree with some about it having too many close calls. Seemed like every 4 minutes he was walking away from something that should kill him. Most Bond films give you a break between death defying stunts.

I enjoyed it, Craig is now officially my second favorite Bond. He has done an excellent job with it.

Casino Royale
Skyfall/Spectre
Quantum of Solace

For the record, I like Quantum more than most.
