Star Wars needs a generational gap between trilogies.

Anchorman 2

The time wasn't the problem, especially since the movies went from 70's feminist time to 80's birth of 24 hr news.

It just that it wasn't funny nearly as funny was the problem.

Lucas had no interest in making a sequel trilogy, so it's pretty moot. He didn't want it to be made at all, but that much money was impossible to pass on.

This just isn't true. Hamill is on record saying that back during the filming of ROTJ that GL told him he wanted to do 7, 8, 9 around 2011, when Hamill would be like Obi-Wan.

One movie that could have taken advantage of facial-cgi to make a person still look young..

Would have been a legit sequel to The Lost Boys. Apparently in the Canon story, David isn't dead.

So it would have been cool to bring back the original cast before hail died IRL, and have everyone be older now with kids of their own, and confrontation with a David that looks like himself from 1986.

I walked out of Rush Hour 2 thinking I couldn't wait to see Rush Hour 3 and by the time it came out I had zero interest in seeing it.

Indiana Jones 4 is easily the run-away winner here. What a colossal disappointment that was.

It would've been awful if it came out 20 years ago though.

That's kind of my point. They had almost 20 years to make a sequel and get it right, and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was the best they could come up with? Very disappointing.

Oh yeah you're right. I do wonder if we'd hate it if had come out in 1988. Was it really that much worse than temple of doom? If temple of doom came out this year we'd likely hate it too.

You nailed it. Audiences have grown. It would've been much better received in 1992 or so.

On the other hand, what are some sequels that waited a long time and got it right?
