If WB does decide to reboot the DC film universe, is there a way to bring back Christian Bale's Batman/Bruce Wayne? I thought it was a mistake to not attempt to use Nolan's storyline as the starting point for a film universe. Why not build off of your most-successful (critically and financially) film series?

No doubt it's flawed, but the complaining was way over the top (and i'm not talking about you specifically). He's young and he doesn't have complete control of his powers yet. Zod, otoh, was an experienced general.

Well, he launches him into space and then comes back down to Metropolis. Get him out of the fricking city for God's sake.

And it has nothing to do with controlling his powers. Superman is just a massive a-hole in MoS.

Oh yeah, Superman jumps and there go another 100 people buried in flames and rubble.

And then at the end he destroys a fricking drone right in front of them (I guess he knew shrapnel would come out and where exactly it would land and where the car would be without hitting them), and then taunts them effectively holding the world hostage.

What a dick.

Because those weren't comic book movies. Those were more crime sagas grounded in reality. It wouldn't work at all, and they should actually try to distance themselves from Nolan as much as possible. They tried that shite with Man of Steel, didn't understand why Nolan's movies work, and it was an abortion.

Nolan was a big reason why they went this route. I never understood why he gets a pass for this.

Bale doesn't want to come back, or if he did it would take an RDJ level payday. Not sure DC is willing to take that kind of risk.

Bale was an awesome Bruce Wayne, but I hated his batman voice. No need to go back to that nonsense

The Kents are the most important people in the DC universe. Because they taught the one guy with Earth-ending powers that he should never, under any circumstances, be a selfish dick.

I still don't believe that dozens of people went through that script and didn't see that incredible narrative flaw. And it's an easy fix: replace the nameless family of 4 with Lois. That's it. Snyder thought none of this through, and has Superman and Lois playing tongue tag at Ground Zero.

It could have been made even more meaningful if Snyder and Goyer had simply saved the Superman/Lois love plot for a different movie.

All they had to do was replace her with Lana Lang and it would benefit the film greatly. They already had her in the bus being the one person who was nice to him. They should have used her as his main tether to humanity after Pa dies. It would have made way more sense for her to be the one that figured out Clark was going around the world saving people from disasters while he was in his lonely wanderer phase. Zod threatening to kill (and possibly even succeeding) Supes childhood sweetheart would have held far more impact than the recently met Lois who has the incredible power to ALWAYS be in the right place at the right time.

Yeah, haven't thought of that, but that's a solid idea that could have at least helped save the film.

That gif always cracks me up as the complete antithesis of Superman.

quote:

It's not that scene alone, it's that, as usual Snyder doesn't know how to mold a character. This scene is completely mirrored from the 18-wheeler scene (already brought up in this thread), and shows no progression from Point A to Point B as a character. None.

That's a core reason why not only does Superman doesn't work but the "hopes" of MoS being an ok film that sets up Superman for more are kind of false. He doesn't even have Superman grow in the film itself. There is no change from a petulant child using his powers with no regards for anyone else.

For Zack Snyder it was more important that the scene included Superman's display of a giant pile of rubble slammed into the ground, forcing a waste of a few million dollars of government spending, then showing that Superman could make a choice. He could take the thing out of orbit and lightly place it on the ground, and make his point the same way, but it isn't cinematic enough.

Snyder doesn't care about the character, he cares about the visual he can produce.

And that gif, same thing. Superman is Snyder's tool of unlimited power that can create unlimited "cool" scenes with absolutely no restraint because Superman has 0 limits as a tool on film, and nothing more. Think about it.

Any "cool scene" that Snyder can think, Superman can do. That's the problem.

Let's all be honest for a second. This universe was ruined the minute pictures leaked of superman not wearing red underwear.

Cavil is bad as Superman too.

What?

He's honestly perfect for the role and has the looks and acting chops for it.

He's just being wasted on shitty movies like MoS and BvS with shite mud that Zack Snyder calls a competent, entertaining and satisfying story line.

frick you.

Batman got three great movies that nailed down the character so well.

Superman deserves three well done movies that nail down why he's one of the best ideas humanity has ever had and something we all should aspire to be.

Could not agree more good sir. That, for me, was the second worst line in man of steel. PA Kent saying a bus full of dead kids is ok was just awful. The worst line was still right after Clark got his X-ray vision at like age 8 and his mom shows up to comfort him. The first thing he says to her is.....at 8 years old and just finding out he can see through shite is...."the world's too big mom." What kid says that? Ever? Especially after finding out he can see through people. It was retarded.
