Loved the movie, not sure why the theatre decided to start chopping the onions for their hotdogs towards the end of the movie.

completely deferring to Luttrell.

I think he felt he and Marcus thought alike. One can assume he already had a decision made up but knew which way Marcus would vote. Still not the thing to do by military code obviously.

These guys were torn between doing whats morally right, what's right by procedure, and what's right by training standards. By all accounts, Mike Murphy was a great human being. The media aspect could've been used as a way out of not having to come out and say that killing them was wrong and immoral.

Who knows. But like you said, Marcus wishes Red Wings never happened. He says repeatedly that he'd would easily give his life if it meant the others survive

As an officer in training, there is absolutely nothing wrong with taking into account your subordinates' assessments of the situation. At the end of the day it is up to the officer to make the confident decision. But I'm not so sure of a vote. Doesn't sound becoming of an officer in the US military.

Bump to page one, as a companion piece to the other Lone Survivor thread.

Just watched.

Really kind of speechless. A lot of emotions.

It is preferred.

It doesn't even have to be the right one, as long as one is made. Which is what happened in this situation .

I watched it today, and thought it was an outstanding movie. I never read the book, however the fighting scenes were amazing! I felt like I was flipping down the mountains with the soldiers. The ending really could choke up anybody with half a heart. I was in a packed theater, and after the movie everyone clapped. I know it's Hollywood, however the movie reminded me what a solider can go through on any given day, and I appreciate what they do.

Blue Velvet: Did you read the book or watch the movie? Maybe your just trolling for a reaction. Pathetic.

Yes. Maybe your assumptions are clueless, as usual. Pathetic and typical.

Whatever happened to Gulab? They showed a picture of him with Marcus, but did he come to America or stay and protect the village?

If he lives in America I hope he doesn't ever owe taxes on anything.

He's visited Luttrell in Texas a few times.

The 60 Minutes interview is online (might even be a link earlier in this thread). During it, they say that Gulab had to move from his village because of threats from the Taliban.

Was it not possible or an option to take the goat herders up the mountain with them so they could try to establish comms while not alerting the village?

Wouldn't that have been their best bet?

My take on the vote situation is it may not have played out exactly that way but in relaying the story as such, Lutrell shoulders a great deal of the blame for what happened. I think that's the way he wants it to be.

Thought the same when I read the book. I guess they figured that would compromise their movements.

In the 60 Minutes interview, when pressed by Anderson Cooper, Luttrell says he wishes they would have killed them. But hindsight is 20/20. He now knows NOT killing them led to disaster.

He also mentioned having zip ties, and that they considered zip tying the shepards (AND THE GOATS - because they thought the goats would follow them and attract attention), but let them go and hoped for the best.

What they should have done was tied up the young kids and made the old man go down the mountain by himself.

I didn't read the book and didn't know the story,so the helicopter going down really caught me off guard. Loved the movie though.
