How good is this movie?

Between the music score and the mystery of the Ark among other things I rate it really high as one of the all time great movies. Not sure if it is just from the nostalgia from my childhood though. I will watch it anytime it is on but it doesn't play often enough.

Waste of time because the Arc would have killed the Nazis whether Indy tried to steal it first or not. His adventures were a moot point.

Raiders is one of the greatest movies ever made, but Last Crusade holds a special place in my heart for some reason.

After many hours of scrutiny over several glasses of single malt McAllen, my best friend and I concluded that it is my favorite movie of all time.

It has everything I like in a movie, epic adventure, a likeable hero who isn't perfect (take notes James Bond writers), the best McGuffin ever, exotic locations, vile villains, a hot yet scrappy damsel, and one of the best musical scores ever.

Yep, it's my #1.

I feel the same way and think is has to do with several factors.

1. Father/son relationship dynamic and Sean Connery in general. Raiders is carried entirely by Ford and is pretty much just an awesome adventure movie. Last Crusade has that too with character development on top.

2. Breadcrumb trail/mystery investigation plot elements

3. More interesting and imaginative sets

The scene where he is standing on top of the dig, and the Sahara sun is setting behind him...cinema gold, Jerry.

It's easily one of 5-10 greatest movies of all time. There was nothing like it ever made before it came out and it holds up probably better than any movie ever. It's still looks better than movies made now.

It's the geatest adventure movie ever and simply one of the greatest films ever made. I can't rate this movie highly enough.

Awesome movie and an 80's classic. I recently watched Temple of Doom for the first time in a while. The woman screaming "INDY!!" the entire movie got old really quick. She was so damn annoying. I find Raiders was the best, followed by last Crusade. Then Temple of Doom with Crystal Skull trailing waaay behind.

It's probably because that was one of the first movies I remember going to as a child but it's my favorite. I know it's not the best but it holds a special place in my heart.

Probably depends on how old you were when you first saw it - it is a little simple and direct, but as a piece of film, just extremely well thought out and well executed.

It should get more buzz in GOAT film discussions - I mean, for a period adventure piece, it is without equal, IMHO. The Gold Standard for action films not involving costumed heroes, too.

Just watched the other night with my kids. Movie holds up very well. Karen Allen is that girl next door in this movie. No PC bullshite back then. They portrayed the Nazis as they were.

My son was like Indiana looks like Han Solo. Yes, son he does.

My kids loved it. I remember as a kid I wanted a whip like Indiana.
