I'm not too fond of Timothy Dalton
I always thought that Dalton was the most-accurate portrayal of the character from the books.

Favorite bond? That’s a different question. Connery or Craig for me.

During the Remington Steele brouhaha, I always thought that Brosnan would make a great Bond. Candidly, the anticipation proved to be better than the final product.

I like Connery as the Bond character more but I think I enjoy the movies that Moore are in more because of the age I was when they came out.

Age and the circumstances in which you first see them definitely plays a part. My top two Bonds are Connery and Moore because of my age and two of my favorite movies are You Only Live Twice because I remember my dad taking me to see it when I was just a kid and Live and Let Die because that was the first movie I got to see by myself in a theater.

Nostalgia has a lot to do with it

Dude completely embodied what Bond looks and sounds like to me. Somehow was more James Bond than at least appearance wise than the original.

When the movie came out I rolled my eyes at the Steve Jobs/Rupert Murdoch villain. Now I see it as, "Yeah, that's about right."

Moonraker and For Your Eyes Only.

For Your Eyes Only had some of the best real stunts, and the most copious amount of Bond Girl hotness. Sheena Easton (intro/song) Carole Bouquet, Lynn-Holly Johnson, Cassandra Harris, Jill Bennett, Chai Lee, Caroline Cossey (gulp).

Dated almost a carbon copy of Carole Bouquet about 5 years later. Still smiling about it.

Smokeshow Countess Lisl (Cassandra Harris) was married to Pierce Brosnan about that time; she died in her 40's with cancer.

Everybody on the planet wanted him to be Bond once he started doing Remington Steele.

And all I ever see him as is Remington Steele.

Never Bond.

I enjoy the campiness of those movies, and I think the franchise could use a dose of silliness to give it some life again.

I went on an action movie binge during Covid and went through a run of all the Bronsons. Most of the bad stuff is the fun kind of bad. The last one is pretty rough because of all the half baked CGI. But I feel like there’s a lane for both the elevated Casino Royale Bond, and also a Tommorow Never Dies type fun Bond

They all fit the time they played them.
Connery was perfect for the hip 60’s early 70’s. Moore was the epitome of the cheesy 70’s early 80’s. Dalton for the F’d up late 80’s. Brosnan for the 90’s (though he should have taken over for Moore) and finally Craig for the new century.
BTW Lazanby was playing Connery not Bond in FHMSS but that is one of the best written and filmed Bond movies - It’s too bad Connery didn’t do it.

Die Another Day and Tomorrow Never Dies are probably the worst two Bond films ever made but it wasn't because of Brosnan

Tomorrow never dies has it highs and lows. Sheryl Crowe’s song was terrible. I’ll just stop there. Die another Day also had highs and lows. Madonna’s song was terrible. In both movies it seemed like they were trying to do more than what seemed natural to the flow of the movie.

I disagree with about half of what you said. Tomorrow Never Dies was 100% ahead of its time with the fake news angle it played. Jonathan Pryce absolutely chewed up the scenery as Elliot Carver. You can tell the dude was enjoying every minute playing a Bond villain. It also featured one of the best Bond Girls of the entire franchise (Michelle Yeoh as Wai Lin) and one of the absolute best henchmen of the entire franchise: Götz Otto's Mr. Stamper. Also...I don't care what anyone says, I enjoy Sheryl Crow's title theme. Sue me.

Tomorrow Never Dies is a Top 15 Bond film that had the unfortunate luck of following a Top 5 Bond film (Goldeneye). It was also released mere months after the acclaimed first person shooter of the same name, so it had a lot to live up to.

1) Connery - he set the tone
2) Brosnan - he was 90s Bond
3) Moore - I would have said Craig here, but he eventually nutted the characters machismo with his fragile emotions, and gay vibes in Skyfall
4) Dalton
5) Lazenby

I was calling for Brosnan to be Bond after seeing him in Remington Steel in the early 80's, basically playing Bond.
