Never heard of or saw Dane Cook until the link earlier in this thread.
Hate him.
Hate him.

I don't get hate for dane he may steal some of his jokes but i think they're pretty funny. Although i will say he peaked with retaliation. Chappelle is hilarious and was the main force behind the show both writing and acting. I never did get the love for carlin or ray romano.

Ah sweet you're a message board english major. And I said may steal his jokes bc I've only heard people say that I've never actually seen proof. Not saying there isn't just that ive never seen it.

Whether he stole jokes or not, I've watched Dane Cook and he just isn't funny at all. Lousy delivery and the substance isn't even amusing. He wouldn't even be that funny as a guy shooting the shite at a frat party.

Bill Hicks and it's not even close. If I want to see conspiracy lunatic ramblings, I'll go to the Poli board.

Underrated Anthony Jeslnik and Nate Barazagte (butchered their names)
Overrated....(prepares for you're an idiot assault) Mitch Hedberg.
Now...I like him..I have a few of his stand ups....but he is simply overrated. Every one praises him..but if he did die he would still just be a funny comedian...but not the king of kings like people put him. Much like Kurt Cobain...Mitchs fame benefited from his death

I completely disagree.
I really dislike Jesilnik. His material, which revolves around unwitty shock humor, is weak. And his delivery isn't good either. He took what has become the comedic short cut these days (see Bo Burnham) which is to tell as much shock toilet humor as possible.
Humor is supposed to be shocking, but with Jesilnik, it's too much shocking. It gets old too quickly with his stand up. You know you're gonna get a risque and shocking word(s) at the end of every one liner he does, and thus, it becomes unshocking. I've listened to alot of his stuff, and I've had enough. He should add another element to his stand up.
Part of what made Hedberg so great is that 1) his material was fricking awesome, and 2) his delivery, which was also fricking awesome, was natural.
I was listening to an interview with Cross and Galifianakis the other day, and they both complained about lazy up and coming comedians (like Jesilnik) who make their name with shock humor only. And while they admitted that today's humor revolved around shock material such as rape and dead babies, they still were a little peaved.
eta: my vote for most underrated comedians are bill burr, rohan harry, and lachlan patterson.

If Mitch was still alive he would be 1.0 and Demitri Martin would be Mitch 2.0...but are very funny..but Martin has nowhere near the fame..mainly because he is alive. Although Mitch was famous at death NOWHERE near the fame he acheived after death.
Jesilnik sure you can use the "shock" humor crutch...but he continues to shock you which is the talent part. ANyone can say 1 or 2 shock lines..and then get stale..but he continues to find ways to shock you..and that takes a creative mind. I'm guessing you aren't a fan of Jimmy Norton...and Louis C.K. to an extent (Making fun of his children as much as he does...is shock humor)
As far as his delivery...his dead pan "i'm better than you delivery" is something I love...as much as you might be a fan of Mitch (as am I) his delivery is simply nothing special..except he just sounds stoned while doing it.
But again..I love Norm McDonald deliveries cause it can come from anywhere.

I kindof disagree. Mitch's delivery makes him better than Martin. I also think Mitch's material was a little better.

I disagree. I just thought his shite got old too quickly.

I fricking hate his egotistical delivery more than anything.

Hedberg's stoner dialect + his pauses = greatness
I understand what you're trying to say about Jesilnik being witty and shocking, but if he wants to attain greater success and be funnier, he should go the Galifianakis route and diversify his material.

fwiw...I complete agree with you on Burr being underrated. That guy is fricking funny. I don't know if you ever listen to Opie and Anthony but he is on that show a ton..and always delivers..and Il ove his stand up.
we'll agree to disagree on Jesilnik (even though I found out he mainly got into comedy to land a comedy writing gig...which he has got and doesn't do much stand up anymore.)
also...I hope that "The Hangover" really helps Z.G. stand up become more popular..because you're right..it's good shite

Most People will probally disagree, but...
Not counting roles in movies but strictly stand up comedy, I have to say the choice is obvious...Robin Williams.
I understand the talent he has for his improv skills, and it can be mildly amusing at times, but for the most part his act is just non sequitur ramblings and impressions followed by a resounding, YESSS!!!
I'm not saying I don't like his comedy in the movies, just not in a 2 hour standup special.

since they don't have an underrated thread, Mitch Fatel is pretty underrated.

In my opinion the most "overrated" would be Arsenio Hall. I thought he rode the coat tails of Murphy into his fame. As far as underrated I am going with Stephen Wright, if you can get past the monotone delivery his jokes are on borderline of classic or bi-polar.

Definitely Dane Cook. Also any of those white trash comedians like Larry the Cable Guy. Jeff Foxworthy can be funny occasionally but the rest of them suck and suck hard.

Mitch Hedburg is not funny.
Not a bit.
