Yea I understood the same mass thing, but how did they lock onto his position to send back? I realize he had a tracker, but the shape-shifter with fauxlivia didn't know Olivia had crossed over and that they were using Broyles. The two crossovers happened nearly simultaneously and they don't really explain how walternate adjusted. It just seems like poor writing just to get that scene where Broyles' eyes pop out seeing his mutilated alternate self.

Exactly. They pull her back magically pretty much. There's nothing tethering her to the alt universe once she goes, unless that oxygen mask connects her. There's nothing in that scene that explains why they can pull her back but not travel pretty much freely between worlds.
Even one line of dialogue fixes that even if it doesn't properly explain it. "the oxygen her body is dependent upon while in the tank provides a tether between worlds which allows us to pull her back. There was no such tether in the Harvard lab thus she escaped without a trace"
At least admit you're using TV magic and the plot hole can be overlooked

I don't get how Olivia crossed through in walternate's tank, but they were able to pull her back. why couldn't they pull her back when she went in the tank at Harvard?
i assumed they could pull her back the first time because she never left the statue's base. that's the only reason I could think that would make some sort of sense, but couldn't they have done the same at Harvard? was it because she had the oxygen mask in the DoD tank leaving a connection to the other universe?
it just doesn't make sense.
Actually, now that I think about it...maybe she was able to cross over at the Harvard tank because it was an unstable zone. Similar to how they needed to use the train station to bring Fauxliv back, the bridge, etc. They usually cross over at "soft" spots or whatever, and we know that the alt Harvard is all covered in amber so there was obviously a fringe event there at some point in the past. So maybe that's why she wasn't able to stay over at the DoD, but she was once she was at alt Harvard.

It wasn't necessarily simultaneously, as we don't know if the things in one universe were happening at the same time. Similar times, maybe...but not the same necessarily. I just figured that Broyles was caught in that lab at Harvard, and walternate immediately killed him and got him ready for the transfer with Fauxliv in our universe.
Also, we may end up getting an explanation as to what happened in the next few episodes. I agree that all it would take would be a short statement from Walter to make it believable, and for all we know, we may get that soon.

what exactly classifies something as a fringe Event, that requires amber? They used amber on feaux Olivia apartment really for no reason but to keep Olivia from it.
Posted on 10/8/14 at 11:10 am to CocomoLSU
Yea the lab was conveniently on the very edge of the amber
But I thought Olivia's ability with the cortexiphan didn't really depend on soft spots. I don't recall it depended on them later in the series when she's mastered her abilities.

I mentioned the odd Amber moments a few episodes ago when the guy was breaking into the bank. How was that an Amber event? They just wanted to complete the story with the bad brother in Amber after the good brother was initially sealed even though it made zero sense for them to use the amber.
Posted on 10/8/14 at 11:56 am to TigerMyth36
The amber was used because the method the guy was using to steal made the environment unstable around it.

I'm not sure, but I think it's when someone fricks with the fabric of the universe, so to speak. So like if someone crosses over. Or in that bank scene when the dude used that anti-particle (or whatever) machine to destabilize matter and get into the bank. My guess is that shite like that fricks with shite pretty legit, so they have to then come behind and repair (or really just bandage) the scene with the amber.
That's sort of my take on it anyway, and it makes the most sense to me I think.

I guess given the massive damage before they had the Amber, they nip any new crap in the bud. They go shock and awe no matter what the situation turns out to be.

Your explanation is exactly how I've understood it to be.
I'll be watching the next three episodes later today so I'll be back in here.

Right. Once Walter crossed over originally, it made things unstable as frick over there (not sure why the same didn't apply here...maybe because he went here to there originally?), so any sort of fringe event where the fabric of the universe is tampered with, they shut that shite down and overkill it like you said.
TH, sounds good. Discussion for the next three starts Monday morning. Glad you're finally in here.

that sounds about right, I remember at-least one episode on Walter's side or as I like to call it out side, where they considered using amber but they were able to stop the anomaly that was going to make them use amber. My guess is the same thing could happen on the alternate side.
For example when Olivia, Walter, and the other cortexiphan patients came to the alternate universe they got an amber alter for the theater but once they left the amber altert went away. They eventually used amber anyway but I have a feeling they didn't need to do that but they didn't want Olivia be able to get back to her side.

Season 3 Episode 10
The Firefly
For nitpicks sake.... They have a million cameras, even one that picks up the observer and the son way off on a hill, yet they didn't have anyone at the door to stop him from getting in?
Oh shut up Olivia. Once again though....typical woman. Ha! Good thing yurintrbl isn't around.
Ashram.
Thanks for the guilt trip Mr. Observer.
Dang meddling observers. I guess not just observing anymore.
Solid episode.

Season 3 Episode 11
Reciprocity
Why is Peter within 1000000 miles of the machine? This is almost Slasher Film level of incompetence.
Not sure what regrowing his brain would do. He has been smart enough to make connections on just about everything so far. Not like he would regrow the memories.
Oh no! A mole. Have Chloe open a protocol socket immediately!
Ok....poor direction there if Black Scientist turns out to be a shifter. In fact, that was so blatant, I am thinking it was misdirection. Which still makes it somewhat poor direction.
They have fracking mercury for blood. How about a simple line up and finger prick, then a lie detector to test for human moles. Come on. Alien parasite invasion 101 guys.
Was that real blood by Dr Falcon's head. His head was covered in mercury but the blood on the floor didn't look like mercury.
Ha! Looks like I was wrong. I completely forgot about Ninja Peter stalking the shifters.
Pretty cold blooded of Peter. I can't remember. Do we learn if something was affecting him or did he just become a cold blooded killer out of nowhere?
Well, that answer came quick. The machine changed him.
One thing, the code for each shifter there being Olivia's name is just garbage. I guess that could be a list of the shifter's working with her and there are many others out there, but I still found that more than a little silly.

Season 3 Episode 12
Concentrate and Ask Again
Why is everyone walking on eggshells around Dunham in relation to Peter and Fauxlivia? Nobody had any idea Olivia was even remotely interested in Peter or vice versa. They didn't find out until well into Fauxlivia's time in the Peterverse.
"Oh, that must be shocking for you to read about Fauxlivia having sex with the guy you didn't date and only recently realized you MIGHT be interested in." /rant
Ok, now that is the kind of reaction I wish we would see more. Lots of times on this show people are pretty muted with their response to impossibly freaky events.
OMG! Real reaction and ....and.... and....
Wait for it.....
Wait for it.......
Wait for it.........
HAZMAT SUITS!
Burn. We all knew that "easier smile" comment would burn him. And it did....again.
Er.... hotshot Olivia is back.
Two shots, two kills.
Not much to say about that filler episode.
Felt a bit weak after Peter on a Rampage....

You can never wait until Monday to post your current discussion, can you..
OP is updated. I will post my comments on the three episodes in a little bit, as well as comment on others' thoughts.
Posted on 10/13/14 at 10:40 am to CocomoLSU
Okay, my thoughts on the three from last week..
The Firefly.
I remember the Christopher Lloyd episode.
Seems like Peter is completely over Walter kidnapping him. He went from borderline hating Walter to now being 100% over it.
September Seagal is kicking some arse. Hilarious. Him catching the bullets was badass.
Peter with the save about the book ("I wanted YOU to read it to know more about me") was smooth. Nice work.
And Liv is still pissed at Peter. Of course she is.
Awesome how the Observer's story was connected to Lloyd's son with the accident and all of that. That's really cool. Very "butterfly effect" of the show, and I believe it gets even more like that as the show continues to progress with the Observers "course correcting" things.
So it was Peter's fault (catching the lightning bug/firefly) that the band broke up. Awesome.
Walter is worried that the correcting by September will make him lose Peter again...is that connected to the machine and him disappearing, which is coming up soon..?
Reciprocity.
How are they building the machine in our universe? I thought there were singular parts to the machine buried within each universe...but there are apparently duplicates now? Am I misremembering something?
So a shapeshifter dies and Broyles is straight up talking about it out in the open in front of other agents?
Just because this dude was on her hard drive doesn't mean that there is a mole. Why is Broyles freaking the frick out about that?
Myth, THEY ARE FINALLY TESTING BLOOD!!
I'm no scientist, but just because Walter's brain tissue could grow back, that doesn't mean that his memories would regenerate, right? Seems lazy, but maybe I am missing something there.
Liv finally apologizes. Good. Peter deserved that.
I forgot all about the "weaponized Peter" thing, and how he turns sort of badass for a while.
Concentrate and Ask Again.
All of this happened 90 minutes ago, but now it's pitch black outside and night time? Weird thing to focus on I know, but it just seems lazy to me.
Myth, THEY ARE USING HAZMAT SUITS NOW!!!
Why the frick wouldn't they dissect the doll first instead of spraying that inordinately dangerous powder everywhere? That makes no sense.
Peter, you gotta be smarter on the coffee, brah. No use in making shite harder for yourself.
Okay, this is sort of pissing me off. As we know, Walter can literally communicate with dead people, not to mention sending people back and forth between universes...but he's stumped on how to get information from someone in a coma with an active brain? Come on, Fringe...you've already established that we're past this. Don't just use it now as a plot device to introduce more cortexiphan patients.
At that barn, Walter said something about it being oxidized or some shite, but there is blue shite ALL OVER that place, and people are just waltzing around like it's no big deal? That shite literally makes your bones disintegrate. be a little more careful for frick's sake.
Liv looking pretty bangin' in that black dress.
So they made two vests? Because it seems awfully helpful that they left one at the barn for the cops to find, but still have another one that they were planning on using at the benefit thing with the senator (or whatever). Again, seems lazy.
Cortex dude at the end with the massive cockblock. COME ON, MAN!
All in all, solid group this week, but I was getting aggravated at lots of little things this time. Certain things seemed to not make much sense. Oh well, cruising right along...
