quote:

That's not as crazy as it seems and pretty common. A studio spent 360 million on the resent pirates of the carribean movies.

Also over 200 million:

3 more pirates of the carrribean movies
Spider-Man 3
Xmen 3

All of those followed extremely successful films that made huge amounts of money for their studios. Also, there have only been 38 $200m movies released to this point and just 4 were from Fox and one of those was Titanic which shows that Fox rarely green lights budgets that high (others were Avatar, X3 and Days of Future Past). The studio w/the most $200m flicks is Disney w/14.

The first Pirates movie cost $140m and made $654m. Dead Man's Chest was the first to go over $200m on production costs and it made $1 billion at the BO. At World's End cost $300m and returned $963m. On Stranger Tides somehow cost $378m to make and made a disappointing ( ) for its cost $1 billion.

Spider-Man was made for $140 and made $821m. SM2 $200m and made $731m. SM3 $258 and made $890.

XMen 3 cost Fox $210 and made just $459m back. That was after Fox had put out X2 at a price of $110m and made $407m. They did put out Days of Future Past at a price of $200m and earned their best BO out of all the X films w/$748m.

Every other XMen related movie that has come out was made for $160m or less, none of them made more than $459m (X3), and 3 of them failed to crack $400m (X1, Wolverine Origins, First Class).

The two Tim Story Fantastic Four movies were made at a cost of $100m and $130m. FF1 made $330m and Rise of the Silver Surfer made $289m.

As for the other two Marvel based superhero movies that Fox did, Daredevil cost $78m and made $179m while Electra cost $43m and made a piddling $59m.

For comparisons sake, only 4 of the 12 MCU superhero movies cost $200m or more (IM2-3, Avengers 1-2, though Guardians is close at $196m) and most are around $150m give or take. Only 3 of the 12 have failed to pass $400m (Incredible Hulk, Captain America First Avenger) w/Ant-Man likely to drop that back to 2 once the movie opens in China and South Korea.

I can completely understand why Fox was reluctant to shell out so much money for a movie when its only done it 4 times previously, have never had the same monetary success as Marvel making superhero films, and has already released two F4 movies with middling results.

In fact, one of the only other films Fox has released that could be considered a superhero movie was Chronicle made for just $12m by Trank.

They saw that flick and thought they could make F4 with a much more palatable budget and kick start the career of a director who would become their JJ Abrams. Unfortunately for them, Trank cracked under the pressure of the studio system.

Yeah I didn't read all that, but comic book films are raking in money right now.

If they invested money in the fantastic 4 franchise and put that script together it would make money.

They chose a different route. We all know how that turned out.

yeah the reports that Fox were concerned about the lack of ending makes perfect sense, since the origin was 1 hour long.

I actually side with Fox here after they realized how much trouble they were in. I blame them however for hiring Trank in the first place.

This is not a concept that needs "re-imagining"...Reed Richards is a perfect fit in the Information Age we live in.

Space Exploration is reaching new heights.

The first half of the film with a teenage Reed competing against a grade school kid in a science fair? What a brilliant concept,Trank. With Dr.Storm and Sue just waiting to go get him?

I don't think a movie that starts off like that leads to Galactus and a real Doom-whom was reverted back to Doom when the fans revolted against Domaschev.

well if you wont read it you wont see why its likely Fox wasn't willing to put that kind of money into Fantastic Four.

But if you want a long story short, Fox rarely spends that kind of money on a movie and has had nowhere near the financial success w/superhero movies that Marvel MCU films and Warner Bros DC films have had.

Fant4stic which has been out for 17 days is now making less per screen and per day than Ant-Man which has been out for 38 days. That's one big kick in the gonads for Fox.

Looks like Margo Robbie dodged a bullet

quote:

Production recently wrapped on Warner Bros.’ upcoming big screen adaptation of Suicide Squad, so the members of Task Force X will be returning to their regular lives, but for star Margot Robbie that might be an issue when she runs into co-star Jared Leto.

“What he’s doing with the character is so cool. At first it was kind of confronting (to be up close) but now I’m so used to it, I think if I ever saw him out of makeup now I would be really confused,” Robbie told the New York Daily News. “Actually, I saw him out of makeup once and I was actually petrified of him. I was too scared to go up and didn’t know who that person was, and when he got back into his makeup I was far more comfortable.”

Robbie also spoke about what makes Suicide Squad different from other comic book fare, saying:

“I guess the one common denominator is we’re all bad guys, it just makes everything more fun that way. The scenes are more interesting I feel, when you just don’t know how the characters are going to react, especially with Harley, who’s absolutely nuts… she’s either going to kill you or laugh and give you a hug.”

The Wolf of Wall Street actress also mentioned that she was glad Suicide Squad was her first foray into comic book movies, noting that she was previously in the running for the Invisible Woman role in Fantastic Four.

“I had a great meeting with the director (Josh Trank) and I really enjoyed that….I guess it’s part of the game: Sometimes you win some, sometimes you lose some.”

I know fantastic four is tough to cast because all four need to have chemistry together.

Fun fact: Jamie Bell and Kate Mara did not have one scene where they made eye contact in the new movie.

Yeah that's everyone's fault...Trank included for the "first half apologists"
