re: No Country for Old Men is streaming on Netflix

There will be blood is in my top 3 if not #1. I just love everything about it from Daniel Day-Lewis' outstanding performance to the music score to the cinematography.

I love how the movie is just strange enough to keep it kinda obscure, not many ppl know anything about it. It is a movie that can turn off a lot of people right from the beginning due to the no dialogue for 15 minutes or so.

Just a masterpiece of a movie in my opinion.

the scene where chigurth is stalking woody harrelson is one of the most intense theater experiences in my life

One of my favorite aspects was the foley. With almost no score and long stretches of little or no dialogue, the sound editing shines.

From the crackle of boots on pavement to cattle bolt guns, leather satchels sliding through air ducts and Chigur's strangled peanut wrapper, the detail in every scene is tremendous.

It's been on one of the Starz channels nearly every night during June, July and August. The Starz Western Channel shows it two or three times a week.

It's one of those movies that's great background viewing when doing other things. I have it on, all the way through, at least once a week. Same way I used to watch Casino and Goodfellas when they showed a lot on channels without commercials.

Wells: "I know where the satchel is."

Chigurh: [chuckles] "All right. Let me ask you something. If the rule you followed brought you to this, of what use was the rule?"

Moss: "Is, uh, Carson Wells there?"

Chigurh: "Not in the sense that you mean."

Had you read any of his other books before this one?

I agree with others that it isn't one of his best. It is still good, but doesn't have near the weight of his other works (excluding Child of God).

No, but I've read every single one since.

And I like difficult books (I'm working my way through Infinite Jest for around the 5th time now) so I understand why McCarthy fans may say this isn't his best. But it's probably his best that is a reasonably easy read. Maybe it's McCarthy light but the dialogue is still brilliant even if he doesn't spend all that much time on dialogue in his other books. His other books are just never going to translate to the screen properly. This one was the perfect match.

And yes, I'm not a huge fan of Blood Meridian as brilliant as it may be. There is some amazing language in there as well as a lot of tedium. The Border Trilogy at times was hit and miss for me for the same reason. My favorites of his actually are probably The Orchard Keeper and Suttree.

I was disappointed in how easily Woody Harrelson was taken out after all his big talk and buildup.
