I just don't see how they can legitimately do something like that with literally no civilization to get him out of space
Alright...it's a stretch but I'm going to try it.
First, how is he still alive? Well, he was caught up there during a standard mission where they were rotating 2 of the 6 person crew. Unfortunately, 1 of the new crew members carried the virus and quickly all were dead but Miller. Assuming the standard load out for supplies is 6 months per crew member, this gives him 3 years worth to live off of if he finds himself alone, so he's good there.
Second, I'm not sure how much ground support is needed for a Soyuz landing once you're no longer concerned about crashing into someones house.
NASA.
I would think all the astronauts would be trained on getting the unit to the ground, and ground support is there to guide them to the right location and to serve as backup - which is nice, but not absolutely necessary.
It's a 2 person module so he can fill the second seat with 150lbs, or whatever remains, of the food supply. He lands somewhere then hikes across Kazakhstan, where miraculously Borat is still alive. They steal the nearest airplane and airport hop to the US, since it's not a stretch to assume the astronaut is also a pilot.

At least call him the Tandyman.
I still like to go Phil and New Phil, but I do use TandyMan. A) because it's funny, and B) because Phil uses it himself.

I'm surprised Carol was cool with just up and leaving on a moment's notice like that. I would have thought they'd at least go back and gather some supplies (water, clothes, booze, food, etc), but they just took right on off.
The car seemed to be pretty loaded with shite though.
I would be pissed about all of my stuff though. Dude went all over the country collecting cool shite (like the T-Rex skull and the Declaration of Independence). I'd definitely want to take that random shite with me. lol:

maybe they figured that if they went back there'd be problems. First, with people being upset that Phil is back and possibly there being a major struggle between new phil and tandyman. Second, when people realize that carol is leaving (and everyone loves carol) they may try to convince them to stay. For the purposes of them starting a new life together, it probably was in the best interest to just leave right there.
I wonder how far they'll go? The country is pretty much their oyster at this point, and it would almost be impossible for the others to find them if they didn't want to be found. I also wonder if they'll end up getting married again but this time do it "for real", like phil has bought into it.

Definitely like The Tandyman to differentiate the two

I was kinda suprised that he actually had a song to sing to Carol

Agreed, although I still couldn't tell if that was in earnest or if he just miraculously pulled it out of his arse, because it didn't rhyme.

I would kinda be surprised if he made it up on the spot, he has not been shown as the kind of person to be very good at that, making up ridiculous stories as he is put in awkward situations

Sudakis is going to take this series to the next level

Eh, I'm not a huge fan. But then again, I wans't a huge Forte fan, but this series has been awesome so far.

I can't get enough of Sudakis

I don't hate him, and think he's okay in some things. Just never really been a huge fan.

Props to the writers on long playing the story. I wish (pretty much like everybody) that they hadn't painted Phil.0 into such a shallow, emasculated corner - but the slow roll of suprises kept me watching.
What looked like a hard concept to keep fresh for four weeks now seems pretty wide open.

What city was sudukis trying to call into? Houston?

Knowing these two, their next stop will be friggin Alaska, because Carol "always wanted to go there".
They should go to Beverly Hills or Malibu.

I'm wondering if the second season won't involve Tandy and Carol setting up shop in a new city and meeting new survivors. Or maybe astronaut Miller crashing to earth in an escape capsule and fighting with Tandy over Carol's affections.
There was a pretty interesting interview with the show's creators last week. They were saying it hadn't been determined yet how many episodes would be in the second season, or when it would come back....that there was some talk Fox may bring it back for the fall to capitalize on the buzz the show is getting.

I've got a feeling that he won't be a main player. I could absolutely see them not meeting up until the series finale.

They have the opportunity to open things up now with at least 3 locations going at once. Jump back and forth with 3 story lines going in 3 distinct locations. That's a plus and that's what they should do, not just stay in one desert town. Now you have the cul-de-sac, the couple venturing into the vast unknown and the situation in outer space. Very clever.
This gives the show some legs. Otherwise, I think it's cancelled. Let's face it, the show, with it's current ratings, is on the line to not be renewed. Plus, they have it up in a time spot that is nearly a death sentence once GOT begins. They should move it to a better time slot and the writers should show the brilliance they displayed with the initial idea, coupled with the closing sequence of events.
I have not been a fan of the overdoing the boy vs. girl thing at the cost of all the other possibilities of pure comedy that exists in this new world. Sure, keep the friction stuff, but come on, there's so much more. Plus, we all know this is not how it would have played out in the first place if there were just a couple people of other sexes left on the planet. So, stop with the G-rated relationship garbage and go for the comedic gold that's awaiting them all over the world, actually.
They seem to be finally going in that direction. Was it too late?
