Looking for what you guys recommend following after Secret Wars ends under the All New All Different.

Anything so far you think is really good? Anything you are looking forward to?

Karnak and Vision would be my one and two.

Uncanny Avengers just because of cranky Steve. Squadron Supreme looks awesome as well. Ms. Marvel is always top notch. Guardians might be ok, but I'd probably rather Star-Lords solo outing as well.

I might check out Karnak. I'll trust your recommendations reading your posts. I agree from what I've read and learned about Squadron Supreme it looks pretty cool.

Looking through what's getting restarted, I just can't pick out what I want to read. I grew up on X-men and Wolverine, but I don't know any of the writers of those. I was thinking Old Man Logan.

Has anyone read the Howard the Duck stuff from Chip Zdarsky? That looked like it had potential.

The new X-books look bad imo.

I'd probably add these too:
Uncanny Inhumans
Nova
Howling Commandos of SHIELD (which just looks unique)

Because I stopped reading and collecting years ago I haven't read the planet hulk/world war hulk stuff that has been referenced around here. If I was going to pick something up and read it that would probably be my first inclination.

Thoughts?

Planet Hulk was pretty good. It is a little fluffy, not much behind it, but the story is quite good.

If you're look for modern stories that are really awesome, Annihilation is probably the best big Marvel arc in the last 10 years. Maybe. They've had a few good ones.

I like Strange as a character, but I'm not a massive fan of his books. It's not on my reading list, currently.

Heck, I received a bunch of books for Christmas, so my comic reading probably slows down again and I go back to grabbing Trades at the end of the year.

Most of the new books look awful. I am liking the usual ones like Daredevil and Amazing Spider-Man is ok. Mostly the best books coming out of Marvel right now are all Star Wars related. Avengers is total crap. Thor is a woman and Hulk is a new teenager. There is no Fantastic Four book. Etc. Inhumans are playing a bigger role due to Marvel having their rights. None of it is really interesting to me who is a long time Marvel fan.

Only because of Jeff Lemire. Dude is a top 3 writer if not the best.

I haven't begun reading any of the new series yet, because I like to wait until 6 or more issues are out first. The ones I am most interested in are OML, Deadpool, Uncanny Avengers (Dugan is a hell of a funny writer) and Karnak (Ellis is a legend). There are a few others I have been downloading, but those are the ones I am most excited about.

I don't read XMen anymore. It has become one convoluted mess of characters that I do not care for.

I have not nor will I read the Secret Wars, so I may be lost at first with all of these reads. I hate the annual events followed by the annual renumbering, and I especially dislike that all of the characters seem to be changed. I'm at the point where I am not impressed with the Marvel line overall. DC has been superior the last few years in my opinion.

Image has some fantastic titles as well. Saga is legit

ETA: Dr Strange and Squirrel Girl are on my list. SG has been fantastic, and I have always been a fan of Strange. I have not been impressed with Charles Soule's writing, but I will check out Daredevil and hope it is good. Waid killed it with his run

Here's a link to a thread when Secret Wars was still ongoing and the new properties hadn't yet started. It starts as titles we're interested in, but Freaux and I kind of get off on a tangent on what we're looking for more globally.

LINK /

I collect by trades, so I have the luxury of knowing if a book is considered any good before I pick it up. I'm about a year behind, but I list about 15 titles I'm interested in and by the time it comes to trades, I'll probably only buy 5 or 6. I can sit back and watch things shake out.

As I get closer, I'm more and more excited for Warren Ellis on Karnak and the prospect of the beautiful disaster that will be the New Avengers. Oh, and Howard the Duck just on general principle and then Ta'Nehisi Coates writing Black Panther. I'd love for him to win the Pulitzer and then have his next project be a comic book (he's a finalist for the Pulitzer right now).

ETA: Let me second the love for Image. There's about 10 titles I'm reading from them, and if you're not reading East of West, you're missing out on the single greatest comic series ever written. Sorry, Saga (which is also awesome and put out by Image).

This. But I hate waiting for trades

I haven't decided if I'm getting the Secret Wars trades or not. They look fun for sure.

Agreed. I think BP can take off from here and get out of B character territory.

I've been curious to read this. I will seek it out for certain now.

Kirkman's "Outcast" started off very good, but I haven't read up past the first few issues yet. I also like Wytches a lot.

Me too.

The recent update for comixology has been great since they allow you to merge amazon and comixology accounts.

quick threadjack:

Where do you get comics in baton rouge? My son has been getting into them, and I can't find anything other than a Barnes & Noble?

Sorry, carry on..

Book Warehouse out by Broadmoor! Ha kidding, that place is probably closed a long time, but that was my spot as a kid. My dad would go check out the books and I would hit the Comics. At least once or twice a month.

There was a store in the Perkins/Bluebonnet Shopping center as well, I know was still there a few years ago.
