Had never heard of this...[looks up description...immediately heads to Amazon]

The very best things about East of West is it just drops you into the world, and you're left to try and make sense of it. It takes about 4-5 issues before you have any decent handle on what is going on. The hardback Year One compendium is worth it, and absolutely gorgeous.

I haven't decided yet, but I think I'm rooting for House Mao. Or, you know, Death.

That's what I had my eye on. I'll probably pull the trigger before the week is up. But I did get the Trial of Captain America Omnibus for Christmas from the better half. She knows me too well and I wasn't complete on that story.

I don't read XMen anymore. It has become one convoluted mess of characters that I do not care for.

I first got into XMen just after the Claremont era began (my first one was the issue after Magneto's base in the Antarctic blew up).

I was a stalwart reader of that comic. Then came New Mutants, and my enjoyment increased.

Then came X-Factor, and more joy

Then came Excalibur. It wasn't bad, but didn't capture my attention like the others.

Then came XForce and it gave the same feeling as Excalibur

And then I hit what I think was the watershed event for me... Uncanny XMen split into a 2nd book (XMen) and the teams were designated "blue" and "gold".

I read for a few years after that, but by that point it was just far, far too much. The stories seemed to get more and more watered down (which makes sense when you have a bazillion books trying to tell stories about the same group... and Wolverine winds up in almost all of them).

Every now and then I'll pick up some storyline that's already ended (like House of M), but usually I pick up books to see characters I don't know being spotlighted and/or characters I know changed so much they are almost unrecognizable (looking at you, Beast).

There used to be a place on Sherwood Forest, no idea if it still exists or not.

I used to get my books at a place on College where either the Albertson's or WalMart is now (this was the early 90's).

Meeeeeemmmmorieeeeeeesss....

X-Force is like the polar opposite of Excalibur. One is 90's "XTREME!!!" to the nth degree while Excalibur is Claremont's last stand, where he was allowed to do whatever weird thing popped into his head and go down any rabbit hole.

Bingo.

I do love Remender's revision. He keeps the old "xtreme" flair, but he's added a heavy dose of storytelling to it.

An underrated book for sure. Nightcrawler, Captain Britain, Shadowcat, they had an awesome cast of characters to play with.

Louisiana Double Play is still on Sherwood.

There's also Wyatt's Comics and Cards and Big Easy Comics, both in Hammond.
