Iron Man wasn't IRON MAN until RDJ played him.
People seem to forget that he was considered a second tier Marvel character at best before the MCU started.

I lol'd several times, especially at the end.
That trailer actually might have just sold me on this movie. I wasn't going to go see it before now, but I'll end up checking it out now

But the biggest loss is Janet van Dyne. Wasp is awesome, and a longtime fan favorite. Hope is her daughter, and she'll probably get to be the superhero in this incarnation, but... BOOOO!!! Janet is really cool. And it's a shame that by getting rid of Pym, we have to get rid of his wife that he beat up.
Who said we got rid of Pym or Janet? How do you know she wasn't the first Wasp who died during a mission causing Hank to retire in shame?
Why do you think Hayley Atwell (Peggy Carter) and Trevor Slattery (Howard Stark) make appearances in this film?

This kills me.
The salt in the wound is folks now considering Spider-Man and Fantastic Four as second-tier franchises, when they're the characters that launched the Marvel universe.

Why yes. Yes he did.

Fantastic Four I'll give you but I dont think Spiderman is viewed as a second tier character. Sony shat on him no doubt but the pile aint that high.

I had very little desire to see this, but that's a damn good trailer. And I know nothing about Ant Man (had to ask about his powers in a thread a while back) or anything in that universe, but if they take tie direction of more of a comedy than "superhero flick," then I could be down to see this.
Plus, there's Rudd and I don't know many who don't love that dude.
I may actually want to catch this in theaters.

How about "de-emphasized"? Does that make you feel better? Clearly, Michael Douglas is Pym, and given that Hope van Dyne is in the credits, that means her mom, Janet is either mentioned or in the film. But she doesn't get top billing and is not a major character, nor has appeared in the trailer. So, yes, Marvel made a clear choice to not have Pym be Ant-Man, which lead to no Janet van dyne Wasp. Which, again.... BOOOOOOO!!!
Janey van Dyne has been the long time standard bearer for kick arse female superheroes in Marvel. I mean, I'm big fan of the Carol Corps and all, but Janet was the one keeping the lights on in the 80s (X-Men, excepted). And she's being essentially written out.

When I said "he's not iron man" i meant as far as capabilities.
basically i was saying, he shrinks but keeps regular strength and can control ants
i wasnt claiming that iron man was THE marvel character

Yes and no. He wasn't nearly as popular of a character, as the fundamental basis for Tony Stark was to try and make readers root for the most unlikeable guy they could think up. Iron Man was never Captain America, but he is an original Avenger, has had a solo book in continuous publication since 1968, and was such a central figure in the Marvel mythos that he was one of the "Illuminati" that essentially controls all superheroes in the Marvel universe. That book came out in 2006, and the film came out in 2008.
So, he has seen a surge in popularity, but he's always been a key cog in the Marvel universe. It's just that his popularity stopped at the comic book store's door, and has since exploded with the general public.

What people seem to forget is that, even though he got kinda crazy, Pym was a pacifist through and through. Janet was the one that convinced him to become a superhero and he always had his doubts about punching and punishing people, even the bad guys.
Intentionally or not, the writers for the character made him someone with psychological/mental issues, and that's something Marvel could totally approach in the movies/comics, but... nah, why not just let people think he's simply a wife beater and nothing else.

I often like the smaller, street level superheroes (as opposed to cosmic level characters who can destroy planets) and I think Pym is a mostly good, but kind of weak guy which makes him an interesting character. I had significant doubts about this project when it was announced, but I am now planning on seeing this unless the reviews come back horrible.

What about Jennifer Walters? Jessica Drew? Patty Walker? (The fact that she's one of the founding members of the Defenders and played by Rachael Taylor in AKA Jessica Jones is a major plot point by Marvel, which could be a bridge to a Blade series)

First off, Hank Pym is a thoroughly despicable guy who Marvel put on a shelf for nearly two decades, and tried to pretend didn't exist.
Not really, the wife beating panel(which is more common than Marvel leads you to believe now) was part of Pym under mental duress where he attacked the whole team...but since then Marvel has played up the idea that Pym is a jerk. Then the Ultimate line came out, which took tiny parts of the 616 and amped them up (like for example Steve Rogers being sort of racist) He wasn't on the shelf, he was merely shifted off up tights duty.
Pym is an awesome character who struggled with not being good enough in the original Avengers line-up, something Clint Barton (ironically) goes through with MCU lineup. Goliath/Giant Man was the shitty character,it's redundant of Hulk. There is a reason they aren't making a Giant Man movie.
I do agree about Wasp(even though she's kind of slutty), but Marvel isn't afraid of doing MCU stories set in the past, so "hope" is not lost.
Lang is okay, redemptive hero is a fine story. Eric O'Grady would ve been just as fine.
Scott was great in the recent Future Foundation (extension of the F4).

Definitely Jennifer Walters as well. She-Hulk is Marvel's second best title recently, and sadly cancelled (which, incidentally, also has Patsy Walker in a supporting role). I was hoping for me superhero lawyerin'. But all of those characters, and Spider-Woman, were created in the mid-70s while Wasp was one of the original Avengers. As in, first issue.
And while Marvel was trying to figure out what to do with Spider-Woman, who didn't really emerge as a major character until recently (much like Captain Marvel), Wasp was the chairperson of the Avengers by the early 80s, a position she held for almost the entire 80s, before leading the West Coast version. That's right, Janet van Dyne was put in a leadership position over Captain friggin' America (and Iron Man).
Wasp has been the biggest mover in the Marvel universe for decades among the female characters. Really, only She-Hulk has a case to be on her level historically speaking, and Janet had nearly a full decade's head start.
In recent years, her profile has shrank (no pun intended... no really, I did that by accident and now I don't want to delete it), which has made space for other female characters in the Avengers like, of course, Carol Danvers. Who kicks major booty. But Wasp was the trailblazer.

hold on there sport, that was primarily Hawkeye's team, don't paint any other way....and Wasp was recently running with the Uncanny Avengers, a flagship title in MARVEL NOW! also was banging Alex Summers by the end of her run.
