I will list one that NOBODY will agree with. For some reason the oddity that is The Box actually kept my full attention. I get why people hated it, but I loved every weird moment and could have watched another two hours. Well, as long as it wasn't two hours of Cameron Diaz and her horrible accent.

I kinda agree with this one, but Southland Tales had me from the start. Donnie Darko blew my mind. Richard Kelly doesn't get enough credit for his newer works, IMO.

Hugo definitely did a great job doing this.

Sometimes it helps to have a movie that comes along that just keeps you having faith in them.

That is why I like Lady in the Water so much. That movie just brings you in and doesn't let go until the end if you're willing to take the ride. I know I've done a lot of work on here trying to get you guys so see how I understand it and to convince you to watch it again. It really is one of the better films of the 2000s.

So many. I am a big fan of movies:

Big Fish

Ink is a good pick.

MacGruber

The Losers renewed my faith in mindless action flicks.

This thread is invalid without mentioning LOTR. the scope, grandiosity, and ambition fulfilled was purely awesome. It was that generation's Star Wars.

The Muppets. After about a year and a half of just complete hollywood awfulness, it reminded me why I still go to movies.

Off the top of my head

Empire strikes Back - instills a sense of wonderment

Jurassic Park- restores it

Transformers- reminds me why the big screen is so awesome.

I love this movie and it frustrates me that my 8 year old is "MEH" towards it.

I know I'll get blasted for this, but Avatar made me believe that movies can still make me say "Wow".

On a slightly related note, two movies that reminded me that that there are still quality writers working in film are In Bruges and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

The first Matrix. Because of the last 2, people forget how mesmerizing the first was. IMO, it was a masterpiece in one of my favorite genres.

Good choices.
I always liked this one.

Explorers

"Three young friends are drawn into a space fantasy adventure. Ben Crandall (Ethan Hawke) is a young visionary who dreams of space travel while watching late-night monster movies, poring over comic books, and playing Galaga in the confines of his bedroom. One night he has a vivid dream of flying over a space-like circuit board and shares his visions with his best friend Wolfgang (River Phoenix), a young scientific genius who is able to translate his dreams into a complex circuit board that actually works."

This is both Hawke's and Phoenix' first movie.

Im gonna probably have to duck, but as a kid, The Last Starfighter really got me. I loved Star Wars growing up, but something about the whole Computer animation thing. Tron did this to me as well. To this day, if its on TV, Ill sit down and watch it.

Recent movies: The Prestige, The Matrix.

You won't get an argument from me, I was actually going to name LSF somewhere close after Explorers if I made a list of ones not listed. The way Explorers ends up is pretty funny, though, when they do make "contact", so I listed it first. It really seems to stand the test of time and people of all ages seem to like it.

in my childhood, these were easy:
The Goonies, ET, and star wars ep 4 to name just a few.

as i got older i lost the desire to rewatch movies over and over. it was something that died with me in college (i think tarantino was probably the last types of movies i'd rewatch again and again, reservoir dogs, pulp fiction, true romance)

but movies recently that elicted the same type of response (though not really the free time to watch them multiple times) would be Nolan's movies especially The Prestige, TDK, and Inception.

what i like about nolan is that his movies force me to pay attention to every single damned thing going on in the shot.

also the type of movies that marry the two eras in my life for me (wonder of childhood with where i am now) are pixar movies. toy stories, Up, monsters inc, etc.
