He was great in Fool's Gold
One of the few chick flicks I will actually sit down and enjoy watching with my wife.
I've always enjoyed MM's performances. I'm just glad his films are more serious and just overall better now.

That really hasn't been true for awhile. He's considered, in the industry, to be exceptionally talented.

Robert Downey Jr. was Tony Stark before Marvel ever announced the MCU.

You didnt like Ghosts of Girlfriends Past? There were some laughs there.
Failure to Launch was the lowpoint. I watched it because some guys I know were in the Paintball scene. And if I'm being honest, I think that movie might have been better if the female lead was anyone other than horseface.
But Lincoln Lawyer and Mud were great. I actually watched the Newton Boys for the first time the other day and really liked it.

If y'all want to check out McConaughey in a flipped out role watch 'Killer Joe'. It's pretty fricking out there.

Robert Downey Jr. is the definition of an actor who turned his career around.
The ultimate turn around. Dude was about to go to jail for a long time.

How has Frailty not been brought up in this discussion?

Wow . I forgot about Frailty. Love that movie.

Can't blame the guy for taking every Rom/Com role he could get while he was young. Now he can settle back and take better roles.
Never see a movie just because he is in it and never avoided a movie because he was in it.
The few Rom/Coms I have seen with MM were decent enough for what they were.
He needs to regain some weight he dropped for Dallas because he looked near death in Dallas and Wolf.

This guy can act when he chooses to do so. He killed it in the Quiet American but he also takes crap roles like George of the Jungle.

He mentioned it on an svp interview a while back. They asked him about his role choices and he said the rom-coms give a nice paycheck but he wanted to try different things for a while. I guess this is what he was talking about

MM was intentionally doing a chick flick every other year, getting paid, and then living the life on that paycheck. They had an article about it a while back in men's journal or something like that. I'm sure now that he's a little older with a family he's probably a little more serious.

completely agree. I don't think he was ever considered untouchable or anything. In fact, I think it was widely believed he was a talented guy just slumming for a few years for paychecks. Good on him. Now he has the freedom to do whatever he wants.
Brendon Fraser is a weird case. Ian MacKellan once said Fraser was a better film actor than he was. Really, he's got a great career: he stars in huge blockbuster films that he doesn't have to carry, but he gets hired because he's a pro who doesn't whine or create problems and is generally well-liked by everyone. Or, as one critic claimed, he's the kind of guy who takes on a dark indie drama to kill time before his true passion, blue screen blockbuster action flicks.

Speaking of McConaughey its obvious during filming for True Detective he isn't back to his normal weight especially the weight he is when he is ripped for his RomCom beefcake or action roles.

I'm too excited for Interstellar. I know I've already built it up too much in my mind and have set myself up for disappointment..but I don't care! I'm ready to see it!
