In the previews for next week they showed Betty and Henry having problems two different times. He also was close to beating her in the first half of this season and I haven't rewatched it I just remember it.

In one scene for next week Henry is being disapproving to Betty and in another he yells at her to stop brushing her hair. Betty and Henry are done (at least that's what Weiner is leading us to believe) but Don may not go back to her. Betty was still immature when she got with Henry and didn't have much ambition of her own, now she is very mature and wants to go back to school and she is seeing that Henry wants her to be the good little housewife.

Didn't watch

Could be, I suppose. I just don't see her getting back with Don.

And Jim Hobart is a straight up ruthless mofo and a great character

Your entire post was good but this in particular. Hobart doesn't give a shite about Roger and his team; he just wanted to remove the competition. He really doesn't expect Don & Co. to "take it up a notch" rather he just wants them out of the way. They have their big accounts in each category and they could care less about the small fry conflicting accounts/brands.

Don had the right of it in proposing the move to California but apparently their buyout/contracts preclude them from splitting off on their own again, thus the futile pitch to Hobart to allow them them a branch office in Cali. But that is part of the problem with interpreting the show; we don't really know about the legal limitations.

Don and Roger will never be happy working working for a big firm like McCann that they weren't part of building. They should take whatever severance deal they can get (like Joan is doing) and start over again in California with their 18 million worth of conflicting/small potato accounts. Frankly, I would like to see it end like that with them starting over again but of course, the show is ending so that likely won't be happening. Don was looking out the window during the McCann meeting at a jet that was far off in the distance. His mind was far off in the distance also and he obviously didn't want to be there.

My guess is the Mad Men will come to realize what it's like to be on the losing end of being overpowered. They reveled in their time but their time is coming to an end. I hope Don doesn't become a jumper, as many suggest based on the intro but I could easily see it happening. But my guess is he will either return to his true identity, as Dick Whitman, or take on another new identity.

I think Don realizes that he has accomplished about as much as he could in advertising and now he is just looking for sincere love in his life. He pissed away his family by being unfaithful to his wife and now Betty and the kids have moved on without him. The scene in the kitchen with Betty reading Freud and telling Don that it's what she always wanted to do (go back to school) was telling. And she made it clear that Sally is an independent person now as well. Don's only real hope for happiness it to start a new life for himself and hope he can get it right next time. But Don's problem is he is torn between wanting true love and his ongoing urge to be a Mad Man. He will never have a lasting relationship as long as he remains an alcoholic and fricks around with random women he meets.

With the long time series intro of him falling out a building and then the way he looked at/out the window in the building tonight.....could it be foreshadowing?

I'm going to go with FUUUUUUCK NO. The intro is about his tendency to always blow up everything in his life. No matter how good he's got it, he always self destructs.

That was the best scene in the episode.

The exchange between Roger and Peggy summed it up nicely.

Roger: How did it come to this?

Peggy: You act like you had nothing to do with this?

Roger: I'll have you know I held this place together.

Peggy: I now you think that but you actually sold it.
You were supposed to watch out of us.

Roger: This business doesn't have feelings. You get bought, you get sold, you get fired. The account moves, you move. Even if your name is on the door, you should know better than to get attached to some walls.

Peggy: Well hopefully I will have that problem some day.

Roger: OK, hot stuff. (pours her another drink)

Matt trolling everyone with the wind coming in from the window. He knows everyone has theorized Don is falling/jumping out of a building

Don't know if it's been touched on elsewhere, but did anyone catch what tune Roger was playing on the organ while Peggy was skating? At one point I thought it might be "The Best Things in Life Are Free", but I'm not sure.

I'm glad you brought this up.

Betty complained of back problems to Don, so he started rubbing her shoulders. She then asked him to stop.

It was very subtle, but I think there are signs that Henry is beating Betty.

I don't know if it goes that far but its obvious that Betty and Henry are on the outs. She puts up with him because he's stable and he puts up with her because she's good looking and that helps his career. I've been waiting a few seasons for something to bad to happen to Henry. I just don't like him.

That scene was basically Don trying to reach out to Betty to see if the door is still slightly open and Betty shut it. Don's trying to find something in his life that he attached to and now that his business is gone, he has nothing.

I loved when she told Roger she didn't want Berts octopus/woman painting because "she has to put men at ease." Rogers says "who the hell told you that?"

Henry is not beating Betty.

Random thought. Don has never banged Joan. Is this the most unrealistic/unbelievable part of the entire show?

The both of them actually discussed this before the Jaguar situation went down. I believe they were in a bar around Christmas time. Don was scared of Joan when he first arrived at SC. Bret told him that she is the only person in the office he shouldn't cross.

I think if Joan wasn't such a huge bitch to him during S7A. They could have possibly hooked up. But now, it seems like a distanced dream for fans.

Don would never bang Paul Kinsey's sloppy seconds.
