I can remember not being sure what to expect when I popped the disc in the DVD player and then being blown away by how awesome it was.

I saw it in theaters knowing nothing about it and was pleasantly surprised

I am Jaguar Paw, son of Flint Sky. My Father hunted this forest before me. My name is Jaguar Paw. I am a hunter. This is my forest. And my sons will hunt it with their sons after I am gone.

I think of this every time I'm in the woods.

Another must watch is The Naked Prey.

When it first came out in theaters I was overseas. I bought a bootleg copy from some street vendor in Bahrain for about $1. Worth every penny.

What's that now?

ETA: Nevermind, I remember it now.

Absolutely love that movie. Any time I catch it I have to rewatch. I desperately want to see a conquistador movie - I'd kill for a continuation of that movie that picks up with the arrival of the ships. Recently read "Last Days of the Incas," and its just incredible how those cultures were destroyed.

Very good. That temple scene was simply amazing.

I don't normally like movies I have to watch subtitles to understand what's going on, but this movie had enough action to be able to understand what was going on and not have to watch all the words to know it.

It's one of those movies that when someone mentions it I need to watch it right then and there.

Aguirre is incredible. Kind of the opposite of Apocalypto (it's a slow descent into madness, not loaded with action).

This makes Apocalypto hard to watch for me

Jaguar Paw's efforts throughout the movie to save his family, and then the last scene you see is of the conquistadors

you know that even though its a happy ending, in reality its an awful beginning

Didn't know what to expect, pleasantly surprised, much better than I could have hoped for.

Actually, I took that ending differently. I saw it as the people that abducted Jaguar Paw's people, sacrificed them, and destroyed their community were about to meet their destruciton, as we all know from history. While Jaguar Paw will stay away from the white man and start a new life with his family in the jungle.

That was my hope, but i meant in a much broader sense in that in the end the entire culture was doomed when the white man stepped foot on the shore

Jaguar Paw and his family may have been able to escape it for his lifetime, but his progeny would not

You never know. Jaguar Paw's desendants may still be roaming the jungles. It was the civilizations that were destroyed by the white man, there are still "tribal" people's living in those jungles in these modern days much like they have for thousands of years.
