I think there has always been one big group of others. They were all together and then at the end of season 3? Or 4? all of the big character others: Mr. Friendly, Patchy, etc. all got killed off. But we knew that a bunch of of them were hanging around somewhere.

Why do people think that water is a weakness of the Monster? The second time we saw the Monster he killed someone in the rain. When Ilana found "Locke" he was standing in the water. There is a physical barrier that doesn't allow you to leave the Island besides the water and that is likely what has kept the Monster in. And its better at this point to overestimate than to underestimate the Monster's abilities and knowledge, especially since he's hinted knowing of the alternate timeline.

The sonic fence is fricking stupid too. Smokey could just rip up a tree and toss it at any number of those pylons, crushing them into junk.

I paused it and watched in slo-mo.....it kinda looks like it says RA but it really isn't discernible. If I remember correctly the A is much more clear than the R is.

Just because it is used to summon it doesn't mean it is it's weakness. Kinda like saying a phone call would be someone's weakness.
I'm not sure if the pylons is completely effective against Smokey. Sure it may slow him down and piss him off a little bit like the ash does, but I don't think they are completely effective against Smokie. Ben's mother appeared to him inside the Barracks.

Obviously communicating with the only other one on the island before Faraday who knows Morse code... Bernard, who is really Edgar the alien from Men in Black (there's a man in black in this show. coincidence? you decide), who assumed Rose's husband's form when he came to the island in Henry Gale's balloon.

Maybe not 100% effective, but remember the episode in season 3 i believe where Kate and Juliette wake up handcuffed together in the jungle. They end up running from the monster and Juliette activates the fence just in time as they run past it, and the smoke monsta was completely stopped by the fence. So it is at least somewhat effective.

Uncle Stu and OMLandshark can you post a link to an over all awesome arse theory like youve done before. i dont feel like searching threw all this babble to find all of them and you guys tend to have the best explainations.ive been out for a few days.
